In preparation for the trip south, I fired up the 8 hp Honda kicker. As usual it fired on the first pull and ran like a champ for 2 minutes and then it died. I restarted it and the same thing happened again.
Anyway, I am reluctant to make the 185 mile run (each way) without the backup motor functioning properly. If I can get it running before Thursday, then we are good to head south. Otherwise, I may be coming by car (bummer).

i had exactly the same problem with my 9.9 honda when i broke it in at a high altitude((Lake Billy Chinook) it was just a simple adjustment that came loose. there is a set screw with a nut to keep it tight . it took the dealer just a few seconds to fix once he found the problem, first he thought the plugs were fouled. hope you get it fixed and have a good trip. |

Hmmm...we ran from Blaine, WA to Ketchikan, AK, before we even had a kicker, just our BF 150 main. Never skipped a beat, would do it again - but we do now have a BF15! _________________

Steve --
Sure, its prudent to have a kicker to get you in if you have trouble with the main, but if you trust the main I sure wouldn't give up the trip just because the kicker doesn't start -- we agree with Pat. We cruised a few thousand miles of the northeast on one trusty ol' engine and no problem trusting to Honda and luck. You're on the ICW most of the way south, we presume, and SeaTow isn't all that far if you have a problem with the main. Go for it!! _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)
