Brent - don't go through the trouble of weighing them, you're probably right that the weight indicated on the website is the shipping weight. Besides, the fact you are able to move both the generator and compressor around is all I really need to know as far as portability. And I guess the weight is a non-issue. The Tom Cat is sounding better all the time! Have you ever filled steel lp tanks with the MaxAir before? I would imagine these would fill a lot faster since we typically only fill to ~2475psi (+) vs the 3000psi for Al80s. I know as much about compressors as I do about the Tom Cat so I may be way off here ....... Smile

CADiver,

No trouble to weigh the gen. and compressor, I need to know anyway. You were right, the compressor is close to 85 lbs. with oil and gas. The Honda XL1000 gen. was 65 lbs. also with oil and gas. I have not had any experience filling steel tanks so I can't help there.

Brent

Here's a good Dive Boat out of Ventura- http://www.peaceboat.com/main1.htm

I made a beach dive with my sons class Sunday. I bought a new IST BC a couple months ago and this was the first dive with it. It goes back to the store. IST is junk!!! The weight packets kept falling out of the pockets and when I tried to release air, the knob came off in my hand!
Bought a new Oceanic Probe for $399 yesterday.

Brent - thanks for the information. I guess you're stronger than you thought, eh? Wink I got contacted by a C-Dory dealer yesterday and he told me that he would send me a information packet - I can't wait to get it!

Roger - I've heard the PEACE is a great boat. We usually dive off the Bottom Scratcher out of Long Beach - great boat and crew. We've been wanting to go out on the Great Escape for some time now but haven't managed yet due to time/schedule. As far as gear, I'm glad you didn't encounter any serious problems with the weights falling out while diving - I don't trust weight integrated pockets unless they have a positive means of engagement (not just a little velcro). Weights should be ditched as a last resort (IMHO), or at the surface, so I have trouble understanding why manufacturers make them so easy to be removed. I wear the standard weight belt although my wife prefers the weight harness. I don't need an embolism because my weights 'accidently' fell out during a dive. Dive safe!

Here's another question (which I also posted on C-D Owners Group). How do you ensure that your boat won't go AWOL while you're diving if everyone on board is diving? Do you follow the anchor line down on your first dive and secure it, and then release it on the way up from your last dive? Or is this not really a problem? What do you guys do?

I always go down and check the anchor and set it securely first thing. Of course the best idea is to have someone top-side while you're diving, but that doesn't always work out.

Hi All:
That is the one draw back to diving off your own boat since we usually don't have guest on board. Occasionally the kids are with us but until lately they had neither the strength nor the ability to help much if something should go wrong. Now that they do it has become a question of wether they would recognize that there is a problem. Don't get me wrong, they're very capable once motivated but as anyone with teenagers knows they can be major air heads. My concern is not so much that the boat won't be there, we ALWAYS check the anchor, but that if there was an emergency, could we get back to the boat. About all we can do is to have faith that we've prepared enough to give us the confidence that we'll be able to answer the call should it come. In the end, having owned both a 22' cruiser and now a TomCat, we much prefer the cat.

Went diving yesterday, on the Peace boat out of Ventura. (great boat and crew) This was my sons certification dive, he did great. On one of the dives, while cruising around enjoying the habitat of the fishes, I came across the boat anchor and a site that will double start the heart of any fisherman. The anchor had hit an urchin upon hitting bottom, the urchin was injured and opened up. There was a feeding frenzy going on and it was very interesting getting right up to the fish and watch them eat. I reached out and grabed a nice sized calico bass by the tail. I hope the pictures I took come out.
