Jo and I made a whirlwind trip from NC to MD and returned home with our first C Dory. (1994 CD 22 Angler from the sale page) We took a good look at it on the trailer friday night, and arranged for a 7am water test on the Potomac River. Matt had stated that the boat had a few small issues that needed to be addressed, and these issues were more "minor" than we'd expected. The interior of the boat is very clean, the exterior needs a good polishing as the baot had just been pulled from a bay mooring.
We arrived at our home lake around 5pm saturday, and although it was terribly hot and humid, I couldn't wait to try a few different cleaners on the hull. "Greased Lightning" didn't even phase it, but "Bar Keepers Friend" on a scrubber pad worked wonderfully! I did the transom area first, then a few feet down the starboard side...she cleaned up very nicely, but will still need a good waxing to bring out the shine.
We launched her this morning. The lake level was very low, and most fellow boaters had difficulty getting to the main body of the lake from our landing. We hed one engine up, and the other trimmed a bit as we eased out through 12" of water, lowered the other engine and the twin 45's took her to 27mph @ 5300rpm on glass-smooth water, 28mph on light chop, both with no trim as one engine needs a new trim motor.
Sonar, stereo, vhf, GPS, and all lights function correctly. I couldn't get the bilge pump to operate, all looks well, but I didn't even check the fuse (duh!).
The hull is in very nice condition, especially for a 1994 model.
Jo and I are very happy to be the new owners! (Thanks Matt!) _________________ Snal~

Congrats! Does she fit in the garage?
What are you guys going to name her? Get one of the nerds to set up a photo album for you.

Thanks Rick! Yes!...she'll fit in the garage! Although she's in the middle of my shop right now...easier to get in and out of over the next few days while I finish polishing her up, and I have an overhead crane in there that I might need if I see that I need to adjust the bunks on the trailer (there will be a post on this).
As for the name...we're fuss'n over that right now, Jo wants "Kia-Fey" (our dog's name) and I want "Thelma-Lou". |

Congratulations on the boat--and welcome as a full "C Brat".
We occasionally use bar keepers friend or Zud on the decks, but rarely on the hull. It is mildly abrasive--and we prefer to use a little agressvie material, when polishing. (We use Woody wax on the deck afterward).
We use oxalic acid for the bleaching of any tanin or other material on the hull. Oxalic acid is the ingredient in the toilet bowl cleaners, Zud, Bar Keeper's friend, Hull cleaners etc. You can buy it in the hardware stores in crystals. _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks Bob, Matt included an unused fiberglass "restorer" kit made by Poli-Glow. I suppose we'll give it a shot for restoring the gloss once we get her all cleaned up. |

FYI, Barkeepers Friend is the best for stainless steel.
Congrats, sounds like a great boat. Hope you post some pictures. _________________ Soon to join C-Dory owners |

Thanks Pat! I doubt that I'll have the boat completely ready (to my standards) by then....but I might! If we do bring it down, we'll need a slip next to the Donna Marie, and a flexible AC duct connection to your side window...LOL! |

Congradulations on the purchase of your new boat. You will like it more and more each trip out.
If you happen to go through "The Canal", turn right, head north past the US & Canada and stop by the Cook Inlet in Alaska, about half way up on the east shore. Lots of C-Dory action in this area. _________________ On the HIGH TIDE-II, wife Carolyn and I.....Another summer fishing on the HIGH TIDE II in the Cook Inlet at Cape Ninilchik, Alaska.
