C-Voyager is 90% complete with the 2 extension and other modifications I intended to make.
The 16 version
The 18 version
There are additional photos of the changes I made to the boat here.
For those interested, I will add progress photos of the additions/modifications I made to the boat, later this week.
I gained about a 17% increase in fuel economy and there was a 17% decrease in speed.
Both of these will go up if I carry the same weight as when it was a 16.
The handling is much better. I do not need any engine trim to keep the bow down. I actually have to trim the engine for bow up until I reach planning speed.
My impressions and feelings about the extension and modifications.

Beautiful job, Dave! She looks great. You should be very proud.
How did it feel to finally get her in the water? I'm sure we'd all love to see some running shots...

Are you going to post details on how you extended the trailer?
Cheers,

I got the chance to look at this boat at bellingham. What a wonderful job on the extention. I was getting the grand tour and pat stopped by for a look and then my wife came looking for me and stepped on board. Then bill and some one else climbed on to take a look. I looked around and there were 6 of us standing in a 16+ c-dory. the swim step was underwater. I decided that would be a good time to leave the boat. no one on that boat was under 170 and several of us are a LOT heavier. I figure over 1700 in people plus fuel and gear. good thing it was tied to the dock with heavy rope. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Tom I did not extend the trailer. I moved the front post ahead 22 inches and the axle ahead eight inches. I also added a keel roller at the front V of the trailer.
Tomorrow I will have load range C tires put on the trailer. The existing load range B tires are at their limit for their carrying capacity.
I also extended the spare tire out from the trailer four inches, so it would clear the boat.

As for the running shots, I am at the mercy of other boaters to take those pictures. When I get some, I will post them.

Dave,
Beautiful job. You have a real special talent. If you are ever up Sequim way, let us know and we would be happy to shoot some underway photos for you.

Well, Dave, you have now succeeded in putting us off the shelf consumers to shame... What a great job on that extension! I think the idea and all around bravery just to cut the thing in half ought to earn you a medal in C-Dory-dom.
Thanks for sharing the performance info,
John |

Dave- Nice to see you are near completion, the boat looks great. Glad to hear it handles well.
The new back canvas works well with the extended lines of the profile.

Just fantastic!!!! Been following your progress all the way. Still hard to believe you actually accomplished this even with all the photos for evidence. Sure hope we can make it out someday and look it over.

Dave,
I was just being a smartass with my comment about the trailer. I'll admit I was not to keen on why anyone would cut a boat in half when you started this project, but it has turned out very well. But I have to say, what you did to the interior , the new dash, the bulkhead area, is in my view simply amazing! What a spacious interior. As I remember climbing into the bow section of my 16 to work on the wiring and the steering cable, your interior shot is just a beautiful new layout for these boats.
Job Well Done !
Hope so see you on the water again someday.
Cheers,
Tom |

You guys & gals give me more credit than I deserve. However, I do appreciate the complements. I could not have done it without help from my brother (Mike) or my friend (Ben Toland).
It was a pleasure meeting so many of you at the Bellingham CBGT and getting a chance to show off my boat.
Tom I believe there was eight people in the boat at one time at Bellingham. I dont remember who the eight were because it kept changing, but Patrick (Birdman) and I counted eight at one time.
I take my wife (Terri) out on the boat for the first time, (since the extension), tomorrow. We will be cruising the South Sound area.
