I have noticed several CDs fueling very slowly and holding lots of sorbents at the ready.

Since day one, we have had to fill the starboard fuel tank as slow as humanly possible to avoid fuel burping back out. Serious hand cramps from holding the nozzle on ridiculously slow for 40 or 50 gallons. This weekend, after one hand cramp too many, I found that the tank vent hose was kinked just a little.

This is in a very difficult to access location, and difficult to work in, but I cut out the kinked section, and repaired the hose with a brass double-barb fitting and some hose clamps and the problem has gone away.

I also found one of my vent lines kinked.

For years we have been using the "no spill fuel saver", West Marine #290430, I know a lot of other places also carry it. Attaches to the tank vent by suction cups when you aare fueling. At our marina the fuel dock has one that they will loan you as they sure don't want any fuel in the water.

Neat looking device, but my problem was not that fuel came out the vent, but that nothing came out the vent - no air, no vapors, no nothing.
So fuel burped out of the fill opening. Sometimes 10 to 12 inches straight up from the fill opening.

But not any more.

I forgot to mention, each of the tank vent hoses was looped - on the kinked one, the loop was too tight (not enough hose). I suspect the reasoning has something to do with preventing condensation or splashing waves or some other gravity related thing from getting into the fuel tank.
