This may seem basic. But on my C-80 when you are on something like a 4-tile screen (radar, chart, fishfinder, rolling road). You can maximize any one of them by pressing "Active" until the right tile has the focus. Then hold down the "Active" for a few seconds. That one tile will max the screen. By pressing "Active" again, it will go back to 4-tile.
For a year, i have been bouncing to an entirely different window by using the "Page" button. Now I think I can stay with my 4-tile window as a basis from now on . |

Jeff, I fished a tournament for the last two days and ran a c 120 system . I learned alot by doing [ which in the boat business you dont always get a chance to do] and can probably help you with your entering stuff and show you how to use the cursor to your advantage .That system does so much , you just need to figure out what you need it to do and get familiar with that and put unnecssary features on the back burner .
Chromer, that is great knowlege on the screens !! I think I did it by accident once or twice in the last couple days!
I like the Ray stuff more and more .Now that I am getting used to it they will probably change it !

Not really boat related, except that I was on the way to the marina....Stuck in I-5 traffic I discovered the 'detour' button on my streetpilot. Ya hoo! no more stinkin I-5. (I must be getting old, I remember when interstates were for getting places fast.) _________________ MartyP

When you start feeling comfortable with your electronics, pull out your manual and look it over again!! You can always find some fine point that you missed before or forgot. |

I'd love to do that but the C-80 manual is an exercise in frustration. Written by aliens then printed with every other word left out!! _________________ Patti and Barry

Have you figured out what the "System/Local" chart setting does for you yet ??
I hadn't until I got really bored last week and managed to decipher the manual.
Now I know what it is but I can't decide if it is any use...

You really know how to throw out a challenge Merv I always wondered what that meant too.
How did you do in the tournament Marc ?
The last time you went fishing there was pics of lots of big fish. As for getting familiar with my Ray Marine equipment. This is the very reason I never took a lunch break at work. When I came back from lunch I had to be retrained. |

Jeff, We didnt have the best days in terms of tournament fishing, however the freezer is in good shape for a few months now. I think the system/local thing is the built in basemap versus the chart chip detail .

Jeff,
C-Series, Display reference manual page 4-28. Chapter 4.11 says:-
"If you have more than one chart view, you can share the presentation or present each window independently. The option you have chosen is indicated on the chart status bar as LOCAL or SYSTEM.
Note: Whenever you initially open a chart window, its chart presentation will be the same. If you want to display two chart windows with different presentation, you need to change one view to be LOCAL and then adjust the presentation as required
As Pat says, written by somone on another planet.
My translation says I can split a window and show two different chart areas.
My brain asks why? If I want overview, I zoom out. If I want detail I zoom in. Duh! I also have my back-up Garmin running which shows overview anyway.
Anyone got any use for this function ?

regarding system/local - they have those Podcast training videos at Raymarine.com for registered product holders. I will take that tonight and report back any usefuleness of that feature. |

OK....ju
Just got back from Books-a-Million.
The Raymarine for Rednecks nor the Raymarine for Dummies is out yet...but I know for a fact that they would sell like generators after a hurricane.
There was a 3x5 card stuck to the display that indicated all sun screen products had been pulled for all Raymarine employees due to the amount of time in the labs and indoors....and not just out there on a boat attempting to use the stuff. _________________ Patrick Byrd "Byrdman"

Merv
It sounds to me like it might be handy if you want a close up chart with radar overlay and then a broader chart for navigating? I guess I need to start playing with it again. A couple of weeks ago I pushed the magic reset button and started over again just to force myself to do some exploring. I found my quick reference guide had duplicate pages and then was missing some others. I called Ray Marine and to my surprise they over nighted me an entire new package including the nice canvas cases.
Marc... What's the scallops looking like ? You think you'll be able to get away? |
