ABYC has a whole set of standards. They can be pruchased in volumes, or on CD's if you Join ABYC. These are related to safety and construction.
In my opinion boats should be built to ABYC standards.
NMMA is an organization which has a certification program. They have a surveyor who inspects XX number of boats as they come off the assembly line to be sure that all of the ABYC and NMMA standards are met.
There are good boats which are built and not NMMA certified, and there are boats which are less than perfect which ARE NMMA certified. There are some items which NMMA and ABYC do not look at, and should be up to the naval archetict to be sure that things are properly done. So a lot of responsibility still comes back to the manufactuer. _________________ Bob Austin

I don't know. I checked a couple of days ago and they were not on the list. Mr Hoffman claimed that they had been certified. I asked him when in a private E mail, and got back a very generic reply--which I posted and did not answer the question.
I get the NMMA publication and it lists new certifications, I didn't see C Dory, but I could have missed it. I was told last June that they were going to be certified in July, In November I was told they would be certified in December..so I don't know.l |

I got a notification today that 12 new lines were certified last month--there are a total of 214 member manufactuers who are certified--and another 139 "Currently under going the certification process"--The President of NMMA is threatening to kick out manufacturers who are not certified. |
