Just moving this to the right topic:

"Intracoastal"

Volumes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkQ5eCRX3r0

1st volume: Hernando Beach to Clearwater

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z68BNB_e9Nk

2nd volume: Clearwater to St. Pete:

3rd volume: St Pete to Tampa Bay:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72SvkYYImEY

4th Volume: Tampa Bay to Venice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQykS_FXAtE

5th Volume: Venice To Manisota

6th Volume: Manisota to Caloosahatchee:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWpWxfNf-Tw

7th Volume: Caloosahatchee River

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrHluxRMQKc

8th Volume: Orange River

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEHqqZirdLc

9th Volume: The Okeechobee Waterway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TPS9Yd6aHY

I'll put all the updates here in this first post as I do them. I am very constrained by youtube as I can only put up 10 minutes at 12 frames/sec when the film is shot at 30 fps for television. Needless to say, the quality leaves something to be desired, but youtube does reach the masses and if it inspires other stroke victims to get off the couch and do something, mission accomplished.

Encore!~ Great job! These movies really show the versatility of the C-Dorys and how quiet it is inside the cabin when the engines are running good. Thanks

David

Like the others have said... this is really unique. Please keep it up. We can all live vicariously with your cruising (and learn a lot at the same time).

I have a blog that has a fair amount of Great Loop stuff on it... I put a link with your first couple of videos there also.

http://www.craftacraft.com/great_loop_video_log_c_dory_making_loop_and_sharing_it

Its interesting to me how often the C-Dory comes up as a river and Great Loop boat... not what most people would think of for that kind of trip, but seem to perform admirably.

Thanks again!

Bruce

I finally got over to check your website -- I do thank you for the kind remarks and wow, what great info on your opening page. The brats and C-Dory itself could get a lot of great ideas there. I wish the C-Ranger tug was more in line with the 28 that looks very similar. That 28 has a correction for the one serious flaw I see in the C-Ranger and that is an exit at both sides of the helm. After going through the locks single handed, a trawler style yacht is extremely disadvantaged short handed without easy access from the helm to the lock (ropes, bollard, whatever) IMO.

Wish I'd got there sooner, but am hip deep in tapes and tapes and more tapes and simply trying to get as much up before I have to go again.

Thank you,
Matt Mattson

Matt, Great job doing this series. I'm hoping to do the Loop myself, so I'm looking forward to each update. Where are the Quick Reference Cards available that you mention in Vol. 8?
Thanks for your effort to document your trip.

West Marine has them, as do the other chains. Good luck on your trip!

Matt,
I hope to leave out after the first of the year next year, or maybe 2009, I've got so much to learn. I'll be sixty-five in December so I can't wait too long before starting! Are you single handing or is someone else there to do camera work and help in the locks?

I'm single-handed. As for learning, one of the purposes of all this is to de-mystify everything so more people will be encouraged to go (before it's to late). Best of luck on your adventure.

Problem (non-C-Dory content):

2 hours after this video was made, the kitten in it had kittens. A couple of weeks ago someone tossed it out and since my dog had died I figured some nice person thought I needed a new companion. Naive me, a pregnant cat . . . All that to say this: if you've been thinking about getting the kids, grandkids, or yourself a kitten, look no further. These will be ready to adopt just after Thanksgiving. I will deliver (within reason from Florida). She just had them a night ago so I don't know how many or what colors, but the mother can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT1vqQzDv4E

Thanks for looking and helping get them adopted. Staying here with the 2 Great Horned Owls we have is not an option (they keep the cats cleaned out).

Intracoastal - The Weeki Wachee River

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrOua3YP8Es

There is a "high quality" in the lower right of the screen if you want to watch full-screen or in high quality in the little one.

Nothing to do with the C-Dory but some may wish to have pointers on hog hunting:

Intracoastal Weeki Wachee?

I used to live in Hudson, FL, and I have taken 21' & 23' center-consoles, and kayaks up & down the Weeki Wachee River (maybe 25 times).

Unless I'm missing something, I'm curious why you're calling it "Intracoastal" since I fail to see the connection between Intracoastal & the Weeki Wachee River? I've never heard of Intracoastal employed in this manner. The Weeki Wachee River is a river which flows from Weeki Wachee Springs (an underground limestone cavernous labyrinth - probably connected in the subterranean with the Homassasa River). Curious as to why have you designated it as Intracoastal?
