Today I installed a large portion of the jewelry items built this winter.
9 new photos in the sub album "Boat jewelry and upgrades". Theres pretty much something for everybody here so check it out. Next time home the remainder go on then it's off to the water! Thanks for your continual interest in my handy work, and don't take my caption statement about the wheel center hub too serious.

Oh-Oh!!!
The Begninning of Hardware Wars III!
Who can outdo this?
"I have not slept well all winter, knowing how many replications of my center hub were out there. So I decided to regain some uniqueness by raising the bar! My new one has the Alaska Statehood coin inset and looks great."
Very Nice!

Very nice stuff! I love the coin in the hub. The grab rail is a nice touch, too. You have an eye for detail.

Mike, I am blown away by your metal working skill. I assume you have a big metal shop for this stuff and gunsmithing? How did you etch or whatever the type in the various items with the boat name, etc.?

Hardware Wars? I can dig it! Maybe Joe can officiate this event, traveling to various competitors home states to view the goods! Of course this could all be covered by his newly acquired C-brat visa! The one issued to high ranking dignitaries for travel and entertainment purposes.
The etching is done by an electro/chemical process. I have a machine that I use for stenciling nomenclatures on some of the parts made here in the shop, of course it works just as good for boat and gun parts!

Is this your private shop or a shop at work? Just wondering what kinds of parts you make there and for what applications.

My real job is working for an Oil Co. on the North slope and I work a 2 & 2 schedule. Therefore I am off 2 weeks EVERY month! With all that spare time I needed something to occupy my time so I put in the shop here at the house. I have 2 steady customers who I build pump parts and mechanical seal components for, and when time allows I pursue my own stuff. Ie boat items, gun projects etc. Equipment wise I have a 15 X 50 Clausing lathe and a 10 X 50 Sharp universal Mill. This arrangement all works well and I truly believe that I have the best work arrangement in the United States for a Machinist.
The recently applied upgrades were built over the winter, now that summer is here it will be pretty quiet until fall, after boating and hunting season!
