Would appreciate links to online marine vendors that you like besides West Marine, Boater's World, etc. There doesn't seem to be much price competition for marine stuff, but maybe I am not looking in the right places.

Thanks!
Warren

I have used Defender quite a bit, they seem to be competitive and have a pretty good selection.

I've gotten some good deals from <yachtsofstuff.com>. Not only are the prices good but their customer service is excellent.

http://www.byownerelectronics.com has a good reputation. I've previously recommended a place, but I have to withdraw that recommendation due to a lack of followup customer service. OTOH, I spoke with BOE for quite some time about a problem with something they didn't even sell me.

For non-electronics, the discounts are less. Jamestown distributors
is great for hardware and the like. But, lately I've been buying
SS fasteners in bulk from my local hardware store. By buying in
boxes, I end up stocking more mself and making fewer trips.

A note about Fisheries Supply. The online web page has a catalog
option and it comes post paid and this is a big one with everything having
to do with a boat in it. Price is right too!

OK, URLs you want, URLs you shall get! Boatersland is good, we have bought a few items here. For electronics, you want Broken Leg Dave's. Finally, I know some will quarrel with this, but we had great service from Buster's Marine.

Fisheries Supply has a new (to you) boat owners program. It's good for 3 months from sign up. They give you some great wholesale prices on their whole inventory. Some things discounted more than others. It's sort of like West Marine used to be, only better! I believe you have to sign up in person at the store in Seattle. We love that place and shop there whenever we're in the area.

Sometimes, the best way to shop for a particular item is to Google the brand and model #. Sifting through the multiple sites is tedious but you can usually find a bargain.

I recently bought 300' of 1/2' spliced to 15' of 1/4" chain from www.consumersmarine.com for only $189, which is way cheaper than anyone else. I also bought the small ACR ditch bag from them for $35 less than West marine!

I was just on their site and they have the ACR Ditch Bag, the big one, on sale for $79.99. West has it for $125!

However, another brat told me that he had some problems with them on a return.

My limited experience has been good.

As Mike, I have had good service from BOE. I also use Boatfix.com. Almost all of my electronics are purchased on line. I have also used Defender occasionally.

Marina Market in Poulsbo sells whatever West Marine has in their catalog for 10% over cost. If you send an email to Jonathan with the West Marine number, he will reply with a quote.

Here's a second for Valkyrie's comments on Consumers Marine. I pretty much outfit Lizzie Ann with electronics from them several years ago. Not only were their listed prices better than most others, but I asked them for a quote and it came in a good bit lower than their listed prices. Have stuck with them ever since with great results.

They're pretty good on the phone, too, if you need info - steered me away from a more expensive NorthStar system I'm now glad I didn't buy.

Word of caution, use care when ordering from Fisheries Supply online. Last week, I placed an order with them and was overcharged on both the order and the quoted shipping charge. I notified them of the errors but so far, they've not made it right.

This is just my one-time experience with their online process. Orders I placed at the SBS arrived with no overcharges. However, I won't use their online service again.

I buy from West Marine. They will match any advertised or quoted price of a retailer from Canada to California for me. You can’t beat their service and I do not have to pay a shipping charge. I know if I shop long enough on-line, I can find a better price but it is not worth it to me. Don’t know if all WM stores will price match but the one in Olympia WA does for me. Again this may be because of all the money I have spent there, but it would certainly be worth checking into.
