With my previous boat, a 22' Hewescraft, I had the same problem with my Lowrance unit except that I lost the bottom over about 10 mph, at any depth.
That was one of the major reasons I insisted on an Airmar in-hull transducer on the Lori Ann. Thus far, it has worked perfectly at all speeds and depths.

Bill,
Hi/lo frequency didn't matter. It loses the bottom at speed. Thru hull may solve the problem plus getting it further away from the motor.
