Does anyone know a source for a teak replacement steering wheel center cap for an '02 22 ft cruiser? May be the same wheel in all models, as far as I know. My plastic cap was damaged some time ago (I'll politely omit the name of the culprit) and thought it might be nice to upgrade to teak. Thanks. _________________ Kerry and Sam on Salty-Cs

You mean one of these? I turned it on my lathe. I'll see what I have for teak in that size stock.

Hi David,
That's exactly what I was looking for. Yours looks outstanding! If you have a spare, that would be excellent...I will be glad to compensate.
Thanks. |

Several years ago David turned some beautiful fish knockers with some sort of wood that grows on his island....they were far to nice to mess up with fish blood.... hard as rock and really pretty.... heck...I think he should be turning those things out of that wood and selling em.. I would buy one.... I diden't take one of those fish knockers as I don't fish much...but they were really works of art... maybe a Bahamiam knocker?? fer all da pirates...

I have one of those fish knockers and have put it to good use on many (ok a few) local salmon and two hali's this past year. light and hard as a rock. Really like having it on board. works good on the anchor puller to when his moms not looking. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Joel, Most of the fish whackers were made from Madrona, although some I think were Maple.I could make hubs from some of the Madrona also. I will see what I have in material. |

Christmas Day I turned out 7 teak hubs like the one pictured above. The stock plastic one is held in place by a single allen set screw. PM me with your mailing address if you are interested. As far as I know all the helms on C-Dory's and probably CC's are the same.
$12 which includes postage and shipping

Received my teak center cap for Swee Pea's steering wheel. Who would have thought that such a simple upgrade would make such a difference? Thanks David for a nice, quality job. The best ten bucks I've spent this year. Sorry that some of you Brats may have missed out.
Happy New Year!!
John

Missed out, maybe not. I ran out of the 1 1/2" teak stock so I looked around and played around with some Madrone. Albutus to some of you. I have turned many bowls with Madrone and they are quite beautiful. It is a hardwood which comes from a tree which grows in the coastal areas between northern CA and southern BC. in the US. I believe it grows on the other side of the world also.
I am turning several a day and have 8 done so far. I am charging $13 for the hub and $2 for the postage and padded envelope on these.

David - after looking at all those center pieces, I am going to have to order one. Can I choose one? If so, I would like the second from the left, top row, or the one below it, or the middle one in the bottom row.
PM me your address and I will send you the check.
Thanks.

My son just emailed me with the news that a package awaits me at home, taking the opportunity to torment me a bit, because we are not there to take delivery. Guess I can't complain too much because we are at least on the water in sunny Huntington Harbor awaiting our annual New Years Eve harbor cruise. It would sure be nicer with my new teak cap instead of that ratty old plastic one to stare at...may have to drive home and pick it up.
Thanks David for sharing the efforts of your skill with us...I believe these may become collectible some day...maybe you should number each cap.
