My neighbor says my C-D must be owned by the bank, as all the birds are making deposits! If there was a topic about this I can't find it: what have you done to discourage birds pooping on your poop deck --that worked --that didn't reqire a bank loan? If you'll note my nickname you'll see why I may be more concerned about this than most. Thanks.

I would look around and see if I was parking the boat under a favorate bird roost. If so, either move the boat or find a way, (Chainsaw, Shotgun, Firecrackers, Scarecrow, etc.) to discourage the flight pattern over the boat.

Boat Covers wash up better then fiberglass....too.

Am afraid I don't know what works, but I sure know what doesn't work: how many times have you seen those fake owls at marinas with seagulls happily perched near or even on them? Maybe a real owl....:-)

Good luck, and let us know if you break the code on this one. (Better yet, keep it to yourself and patent it!)

There is a comapny that makes motion sensor controlled lawn sprinklers. they are using then in marina's for birds and seals. building one of these maybe the ticket. How hard could it be.

I have seen the motion sensors activating the lawn sprinklers on some floating homes on the willamette river and they work really well. Even sea gulls hate them and move.

While it probably won't work in the winter, there is a motion-activated water hose spray head that turns on a sprinkler head briefly whenever movement is detected nearby. It is touted as a preventative for dog and deer pests in gardens. John

The birds have been getting worse and worse at my mooring spot, leaving several really stubborn messes on my roof and canvas every day. Just this last Saturday I put together a PVC contraption that settles into the space between the hand rails and raised roof, with a 45 degree cantilevered section extending out over the flat section of the canvas. (I have a bimini type awning that goes about a third of the way back, with a mooring cover sloping from there to the stern. They really like roosting on the awning.) I put short verticals at each juncture and enough cross pieces to stabilize it. Then went all the way around the verticals with some fine stainless wire, crisscrossing with X's for good measure. It's not too elegant, but it actually isn't much of an eyesore when it's in place. It's light, and easy to lift on and off, and since my (friend's) dock gets hardly any foot traffic, leaving it on the dock while I'm out isn't an issue.
And the good news - it's been five days and NO MORE BIRDS! (knock on wood).
