Hi Brats,
I just got home after having one great fishing day on Lake Erie!
I went up to the boat in the Western Basin of Lake Erie last night, spent the night and then headed out early this morning.
About five miles NW of North Bass Island, I joined the fleet of boats drift fishing and trolling and had my limit of six walleyes in 90 minutes! All were over 22 inches and fileted beautifully.
Also, I got two hails on the VHF with questions such as "Just what kind of boat is that? Is it a trawler or tug or what?" One guy even stopped by my marina later to check out Valkyrie.
You gotta love it!
Nick

Hi Nick:
Valkyrie was not the only C-Dory out there yesterday. We also were out Lake Erie fishing for walleye but near the Detroit Light. Like you, we caught our limit. There is nothing better to eat than fresh walleye. This has been a banner year for fishing.
Best regards,

Rollie,
I was out today, and called for you a few times, hoping you might be around.
Marcia and I will be in the islands area next Friday, Friday night and heading back Saturday morning.
Nick

Hi Nick:
We have been fishing in Michigan waters and probably will do so until the fish leave to take up residence in Ohio; then it is cruising time. I always monitor channels 16 and 68 when fishing. I guess we were just out of range for VHF. One day when fishing, I did hear C-Monkey being hailed but I was too busy to try and reach him. If you are ever over in Michigan waters please let me know either by email or by hailing. Mark (Not-For-Hire) thought he may like to make it to Lake Erie. It would be fun to get together. I am trying to get away during the next couple of weeks for a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for a cruise and fishing in the Drummond Island area and the St Mary's River. Take care and good luck fishing.
Best regards,
Rollie |

I'm watching you guys with some envy. Nice catches of walleye! Just got back from a seven day cruise in northern Lk. Mich. Put up some pics and wrote a little in another topic. My plans for next two months include lots of fishing until I go to the Mississippi for two weeks in September. I think an Erie fishing trip would be good. I will guide either or both of you or take either or both of you aboard if you want to salmon fish at Manistee. August into September is "tuna time"

Mark:
Welcome back from your Lake Michigan trip. I was checking the weather as you went and your conditions apparently were a lot smoother than I thought they were. I read with great interest your narrative. and enjoyed you pictures. I have always wanted to go to Beaver Island. You just proved that it can be safely done. I need to talk to you more about this adventure.
I would love to get you down in Lake Erie. The fish will be leaving Michigan waters soon to take up refuge in the deeper water of Ohio. Though I am sure Nick Valkyrie knows where to fish around Marblehead. It is about a 2 hour run from Michigan to Marblehead if it not rough. Perhaps some time in July we can meet up with him and do some cruising/fishing in that area. I am not sure what the summer holds for time. My kids are planning a family trip to Mexico for a surfing vacation sometime in August. The last week in September we are going out to Park City, Utah for a wedding. where my son, the engineer, was a resident ski bum for several years. The Mississippi sounds inviting. though.
Best regards,
Rollie |
