My macerator motor has gone out. I would like to replace it with a higher quality pump. I know Lyle and David replaced theirs with a new one from Sealand, not sure of the model number. Any suggestions on what to replace it with? |

Actually Lyle replaced his and I had the factory put in new as an upgrade, what Lyle used. I don't know the model number and the pump is now buried in other things for the Ketchikan trip. Maybe the factory can help. It should be warranty I would think. _________________ David and Kate

Thanks David, Robbin or myself accidentally turned the pump on in the middle of the night fumbling around to turn on the cabin lights. When I gut up in the morning I realized that the pump was on. The overload had tripped but the pump would not run after that. Not sure I can call this a warranty issue, just a brain fart.
I checked Sealand on google but could not find the pump like yours. I will keep searching. |

Fred, I have two words for you - Air Head. After nearly one year's experience, I am SURE we made the right choice...today, I just emptied it for the first time, about 10 months after installation. I probably didn't need to yet, but I wanted to make sure we were good for the Ketchikan trip. A new macerator pump will probably cost you nearly half of what the Air Head Composting Toilet does, and you will be FREE of macerators and pumpouts, and more importantly, you will not be hauling 20 gallons of sewage around with you. The C-Ranger will have an Air Head too for sure. _________________

Who's an AirHead! I am too concerned about global warming to compost. What does Mr. Gore say about the AirHead? Do I need to buy pollution credits if I use one? Not sure if Robbin would be on board with it.
Right now I just need a new pump. Maybe on my next boat , oh god did I really say that. |

I'm sorry about your macerator. We have a 2005 25, wherein the macerator went out after 6 mos. Froze solid, blew fuses, etc. C-Dory replaced it under warranty ( by mail.) Must have gotten a bad batch.
Haven't tried the new macerator. Just hope that the new installation doesn't leak. One more thing to check before we leave.
Good luck, Boris |

Fred, The macerator on our 25 wouldn't work since the boat was new. I called the factory about it and they were insisting that I take it up with the dealer. Figuring I had already enough headaches and didn't want em around anything mechanical or electrical on my boat anymore, I elected to fix it my self. Mine appears to have been bound up and I was able to free it up by removing the rubber plug in the end and turning the pump shaft with a screw driver. It got the pump freed up and going again. Less likely to be your trouble but worth the try before you replace it. _________________ Steve and Colleen Torrence

The factory installed C-Dory maserator is a piece of crap (no pun intended). I replaced two of them within 18 months. They can replace them on warranty and you can still end up on vacation replacing it and cursing.
I researched this with a boat plumbing company at the 2005 Seattle boat show. They suggested a SeaLand T-Series Discharge and Macerator Pump, Model 12, Item # 301200.
We haven't had any problems since we went to this pump. Replace the factory pump, time on the boat is too precious to waste an afternoon cursing and replacing your macerator pump while on vacation.
