I just found this at another site and thought it would answer questions for some pople here. i like the part about not fishing in U.S. waters after fishing in canadain waters "if" its closed here. to me that meansif its open here you can catch your limit in both waters, even for shell fish.
Thank you for your email correspondence to The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Fish Program.
The requirements for returning to Washington ports with fish and/or shellfish caught in Canada are as listed under the Statewide General Rules on page 23 of the 2005/2006 Fishing In Washington Sport Fishing Rules regulation pamphlet, which reads as follows:
Fish and Shellfish Caught in Canada:
If you are transporting Canadian-caught fish or SHELLFISH into a Washington port, moorage, anchorage, or vessel launching facility, you must possess a Canadian license and, if required, a Canadian catch record card. SHELLFISH or food fish other than SALMON taken from Canadian waters must comply with Canadian sport fishing rules. You may not stop to fish in Washington waters if transporting Canadian-caught fish or SHELLFISH that do not meet Washington fishing regulations.
The possession limit for Halibut is as listed under the Marine Area Rules on page 96 of the pamphlet, which states: Two daily limits in any form, except only one limit while aboard the fishing vessel.
Please make sure you check for emergency rule changes before you harvest as follows:
Fishing Rule Change Hotline at (360) 902-2500
Shellfish Rule Change Hotline at 1-866-880-5431
Or, try our new searchable emergency rule link off our website at: https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/index.jsp
Additionally, for shellfish, make sure to call the Dept. of Health Marine Toxins PSP Hotline at 1-800-562-5632. _________________ Thomas J Elliott
