Hello all, longtime cruiser looking for advice. I’m in the process of repowering my 22 cruiser from a Yamaha f80 to an f90, my question is how long should new cables be? I unfortunately can’t reuse the old cables as the new f90 has the cable attachment point on the opposite side as the old f80. Looks like I will have to make a loop from the transom to the motor to avoid a sharp bend. I have looked into Multiflex cables and it seams as though they will handle a fairly tight loop just wondering what others have done to assure there is enough cable without an excessively large loop of cable in the splash well. Cheers.

If you're replacing the cable system, you might want to consider switching to a hydraulic steering system.

Yes, thank you I am considering a hydraulic steering system as well. Probably the baystar system with the hc4656h cylinder. The throttle cables were what was inquiring about tho. I guess pulling the old cables measuring the old length and adding a loop is the obvious answer. I was hoping someone has done this and already has an accurate measurement. Before I pull the old cables.

There has to be some way around doing that bend option. It’ll be interesting to see if others come up with something for you. I’m not experienced with these things, but it’s amazing. What some of these members can do to their boats.
