Lakes around here have started closing down due to another invasive mussel recently found in the CA Delta.
Some lakes are adopting an inspection and then 30 day wait period before allowing launching. With each different lake that you want to go to, the process starts over. Wow.
This is depressing. This is already having a huge impact on the recreational boating and fishing industry.
With a dozen lakes within easy reach, a Friday evening decision to go boating Saturday morning was common for us and was one of the significant qualities of our life.
There’s got to be a better way… |

It is a ploy by boat manufacturers and boatyards to increase boat sales. You will simply need to have a boat stored at each lake you might want to boat/fish at. That way your "...Friday evening decision to go boating Saturday morning..." is still possible. |

Which lakes? you are in my home town of Placerville. We Moved in 2003. I used to fish 3 or 4 lake in a long weekend. If ice house was not doing good we would go to sliver lake on 88. or sly park. I saw in the news that this was happening on some southern California lakes but not up north. it will spread if people don't push back. But you should not have to push back to use your public water ways. Susan and I miss El dorado county but I think we miss how it was not how it is now. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

" I think we miss how it was not how it is now."(starcrfttom)
Not all for sure but a good many of these policies are methods of stealing your joy and robbing your freedoms. In the 70's we sprayed every where for gypsy moth. Every community that had quarantines on nursery stock now have Gypsy moth. In My dad's era it was Japanese Beetle, Dutch Elm and American Chestnut blight. Every generation had an excuse to shut down many of your freedoms. Perhaps, in time, we will find Covid was over-blown, who knows. Zebra Muscle Is everywhere it wants to be. These rules aren't to prevent the spread or pests but rather to slow it down while keeping us under control. I would not want to be a policy maker...too much power and responsibility combined. |

Camanche and Pardee have been closed since winter. Sly Park, Folsom, and Clementine are temporarily closed. No word on the Sierra lakes yet, but I expect this to spread. 3/5 of these closures so far are by municipal water agencies, that control the water rights. |

Currently there are no restrictions on the Delta, or the Sacramento or San Juaquin rivers. |

It’s a bummer to see the closures, especially when it’s such a hassle to go through the inspection process every time. I hope more solutions pop up soon so it doesn’t just keep getting worse. |

Wow. I have spent so much time in sly park swimming drinking and fishing. Well without all the boats it should be good shore fishing. Loved to fish Folsom for the land locked kings on light gear. So glad I no longer live there. I would organize a boat the closer day and just go any how. F em.. |
