Buying used Dory 23 Venture and I need boat weight. My trailer is a dual axle with a 7000# rating and it weighs 700#. So trailer should be good 👍 just need to know weight of boat. Little gas and minimum equipment, motor weights 525#. The boat is the unknown for me? Thanks

C-Dory weights on the website have never been close to correct. Too many variables. My 25 on the trailer comes to about 8500’lbs depending on fuel and water. My trailer is rated for 9600 gross. We actually scaled our boat. I’m sure someone with a 23 will speak up about their gross weight. I’m guessing that you should be fine with 7000 lbs gross.

I used to wonder about the same until I discovered it could be done at my
local landfill and garbage dump. Other places to check in your area are
truck stops, farm co-ops or feed mills and sand/gravel yards.

This information is good to know before you tow.

Aye.

We have a 23 Venture. I would say that with little fuel and no water, you are still going to have a total trailer, motor and boat weight of just under 5,000 lbs. It is amazing how the weight increases when you consider the factory options, anchor/chain, etc.

Looks like C-Dory would want to help its boat owners. The RV industry is required to show that information on every camper.

The boat industry has no control (and cannot estimate) nor should they, over the "stuff" you choose
to put in your boat. This includes all liquids (yes, beer - this stuff is heavy), clothing, accessory
marine electronics, safety gear, food, cooking ware, anchor/mooring gear, clothing, decorations, etc.

This is why it is the boat owner's obligation to know the weight of his/her vessel
especially trailering on the road where spacing with other motorists is much
closer than in the boat at sea.

Aye.
I know I listed 'clothing' twice. I always pack xtra undies.

RV industry does not know how much stuff you put in your RV either.

But yes, the dry weights listed for C-Dory boats are pretty low. Recently they seem to have improved the numbers. Since some boats are shipped from the factory fully rigged and finished, the factory should have a pretty good idea how much a typically fitted out boat weights. The unknown would be the trailer weight.

The truth is the factory is putting a number on there boats and if the dealer doesn’t inform the buyer shows up with a small truck to take there boat home. Not very informative on Dorys part.

I would think a 23 would weigh about 10-20 percent more than a 22. So....lots of variables here....but I'd think you'd have to real loading skills to have it weigh over 6k with the trailer.
