HMCS Haida Canada's "Fightingest" Ship turns 80 on Aug 26. Unlike a lot of other marine museums some of its equipment is still operational. They will be firing her A guns(pic in my album) to celebrate and some Veterans will be manning the radio.
For any Cbrat Vets who are operating radio equipment and are interested they will be on the 40 metre band @ frequency 7.180 - Aug. 19-20 and 23-24 their call sign will be VB3HAIDA and on Aug 25-27 their call sign will be VB3HAIDA80
For those on FB the link is here -https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=749733320496434&set=a.255266579943113
Regards and a thank you to all Vets

Truly amazing! I might even throw up a 40 meter dipole and see if I could catch them. Probably a stretch, but I have not checked band propagation and openings recently.
I had a laugh looking at the Morse Code taped by the scope. I had a friend WWII CW operator. He could "read" 50 WPM, drive his car type the message and eat a ham sandwich all at the same time.....OK a little to drive his car. Another of my friends an EE, Took a position as Radio Operator on various commercial shops during the Gulf War. $10,000 a months pay, and full room and board. Several times lighting strikes took out the main "Ships's Radio" and he used his converter ham rig to keep on the air, with a dipole. Today Ship's radio is obsolete. _________________ Bob Austin
