I'm buying back the dink I sold with my Nordic a while back at a good price. It's an Alaska Series, but it's the big one - 270 TDS coming in at 8'10".
I really liked it previously as there was plenty of room for wife, dog and anything going to/from shore. However, in measuring the cabin top of the 25 Cruise Ship - stowing it traditionally, fore/aft behind the RADAR has it hanging about 18" into the cockpit.
Perhaps I'd put up with this annoyance, but I'm not a fan. Ducking would be required going in/out of the cabin and it would also seem to limit use of the cockpit.
Surprisingly (to me), it looks like mounting side to side on the cabin top only extends it about 8" wider than the hull on each side. The relatively flat cabin top of the Cruise Ship compared to a 25 Cruiser would seem to facilitate this orientation well, but I'll know for sure once I have it in hand. It would also seem easier to stow and launch in that orientation - and the 270 doesn't weigh much more than the smaller ones, coming in around 50 lbs.
I don't recall ever seeing a dink mounted sideways on a C-Dory roof. Other than aesthetics, any reason not to? _________________

Nothing I can think of on your typical day - might not be that fun at the dock. |

How’s it affect walking your gunnels to get up on the bow. I have put two kayaks perpendicular to the roof and irs a pita to duck under them to go forward! |

We have had the part of a dinghy (used a 9 1/2' air floor) which hung over the aft end, being put on the first bow of the Bimini, which was always up when we were running.
It would be "OK" to offset the athwartship dinghy to hang slightly one side to make it clear to walk on the other side forward. We often left our Garhauer Davit up, and just bent around it as we went forward. _________________ Bob Austin

move the radar to a rod holder type arch. it will raise the radar and open up the roof space. that is what we have on the 27. allows for storage of rods or dock poles, deck brushes etc. _________________ Thomas J Elliott
