|

Since I've recently purchased a 2008 25 cruiser I'm wanting to steer from the cockpit. I have twin honda 90s. Has anyone here been able to mount a kicker alongside the twins. I'm thinking there's no room for such a setup. |

You could put a mini jacker or a hi low bracket outboard of the motors. But that just puts more weight aft.
Some boats have a steering statin aft--but do you have an auto pilot? I have used auto pilots for steering for many years. With a remote--wired or wireless you can steer from any point on the boat. _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks Bob, can you recommend a remote wireless system? Or two? |

Terry, it may be cheaper to just install a second helm in the cockpit, if you have hydraulic steering. My 25 came with a cockpit helm, tied in to the steerage hydraulics, so I can steer from either position. Cockpit throttle control of your twins may be another problem...but there may be a remote control for that... |

Ok, misunderstood your question. Try googling dual station throttle remotes. Assuming you have room to put a throttle along side the cockpit helm station. I have to imagine it's no different than dual stations in a cabin and flying bridge setup. The other option might be to see if Trollmaster makes anything for one of your twins. |

I'll check it out. I see you're in or from Madison
. My grandaughter just moved there from Colorado and started her first ever job there. She graduated Lawrence University in Appleton last May. She's very happy about it so far. Thanks again. |

RayMarine, Garmin and Navico all make wireless remotes. Panther T4, PowerTran, and Troll Master all make remotes for kicker tiller steering.
I have taken auto pilots which do not have remotes, and set up a wired remote which just activates the solenoids on any autopilot pump motor. Red button to port, green button to starboard.
TrollMaster makes a good kicker throttle control. There are others, but I suggest the TrollMaster because of the relatively low price and long history of manufacturing the units.
If you have steering already in the cockpit you can put a link from the closest 90 Hp to the trolling motor, and use the wheel, or the boat's autopilot to "rudder" plus the actual thrust of the trolling motor for steering. Putting in remotes for the 90 hp outboards gets a bit more expensive--Either double on the throttle and shifter, or go to wireless shift and throttle at the helm and cockpit from either the engine manufacturer, MicroCommander or ZF Mathers. Sticker shock $$$$ for one of these! Some have gone with them.
If you really want sticker shock--one of the engine manufactures joystick docking systems stem, with twins, which pushes the boat sideways, by independently steering and shifting each engine. $$$$$$$ Optimus 360 Dometic (was Sea Star/Teleflex) $$$$$$$ |
