Hello,
Has anyone used a hybrid trailer for towing a boat?
It has a small enclosed space ahead of the boat for protected storage?
How much added length to a trailer would become a problem?
I imagine I couldn't carry a lot of weight up front, without moving the axles forward to balance the weight.
but would moving the axles forward be a significant problem? |

V-nose maybe 5-7 feet?
Maybe tall enough to help push the airflow over-around the boat.
The idea is to have all "boat stuff" stored with the boat, but not in the boat.
Because I use the boat as a "camper" when traveling by road. |

Two things that come to mind - it would require you to back down ramps farther and it makes reversing more difficult. The farther forward the wheels are on a trailer the more sensitive it is to steering input.
You might be able to add a weight distribution hitch.

A boat has a reasonably aero dynamic shape (if you tow it bow forward). I don't think using something in front of the boat is going to help any.
All the stuff in my boat has a storage space. There is not anything that needs to be moved when it is used as a camper except the air conditioner when carried (move it from the travel position to the use position). If there happen to be a couple of items that need secure storage when camping, they can go in the truck. Only thing that comes to mind is the step stool I use for boarding the boat when it is on the trailer and the trailer chocks.
I do remove stuff from the boat for winter storage, but that is so that stuff is stored in a more environmentally controlled area (spare room, garage) or to prevent pests. If that is not needed for something, it stays on the boat. |

| I echo what Ssobel stated. I boaterhome frequently when traveling across country. Nothing really different about sleeping on the boat on the trailer, than sleeping on the water. Everything is still in it's space. I do put the trailer tongue jack down at night while boaterhoming to help with the added weight of either just myself, or myself and my wife up in the V-Berth. I think adding anything to the front of a boat trailer is going to over-stress the single pole tongue that most have, in front of where the frame v's together. Colby |

| Other thing that I would say about having something at the front of the trailer is access to the winch when retrieving. I don't know about others, but when I retrieve I can walk down the trailer frame from the tow vehicle to get to the winch to wind the boat onto the trailer. I can do this without getting wet. A large box or something would probably block this path. |

Downsizing, eliminating home base and will fulltime in an RV for awhile.
Will also tow boat off and on, was hoping to store boat items in lockable storage with the boat, without renting a separate storage unit. When not using the boat.
I've seen these hybrid trailers for towing a rock climbing Jeep etc ...
wondered if this would work with a boat.
Doesn't look like this would work. Thanks |

When not using the boat, can't you store boat items inside the boat? |

Mainly security concerns.
The boat is at a public storage unit and I'm away on the road.
Out of sight, out of mind, less stimulus to steal something.
The comment about access to the winch, pretty much killed the idea. |
