|
|
C-Brats,
I am interested in replacing the original sink hand pump water faucet with either another hand pump or a 12 volt pump. It appears the entire faucet unbolts for removal.
I would appreciate someone replying to inform me of a marine company that sells the sink faucet (hand pump or 12 volt), or informing me of an existing thread where the information resides.
While the water hose seems to be fine, perhaps it should be replaced too?
Thank you and looking forward to replies.

I suspect it will depend on what modifications are made on a boat's water system, or what the original system was. If the boat is a 1988 boat, I would suspect that the vinyl hose is probably well beyond its useful life span, and should be replaced.
There are several different hand pumps available thru the years for fresh water systems, and without seeing a photo, or knowing the brand etc, it is difficult to say how yours is fixed in place. Most have a nut on a barrel under the sink. Some have a pump which is a rocker type of lever pump, some a piston pump and many use the Whale foot pump.
With one boat which had the Whale foot pump, I added a Jabsco 12 volt in line pump, with a momentary "on" button switch on the face of the cabinet just below the sink.

Plenty of 12v water pumps that sense the pressure drop when you open the faucet and turn on automatically. They shut off when you close the faucet. Doesn't hurt to have a master switch for the pump though. |

I have considered replacing my electric with a foot pump, almost every time I use the water. I'm sure, even trying to be careful, I use way more water with the electric than I would with a manual pump.
Just sayin.

My 22 uses an electric pump that also powers a freshwater washdown hose on the transom, which I find useful. But it's one more battery drain, one more thing to troubleshoot, and as others have mentioned it uses more water than you need if you are a long way between fill spots. |
