Sent by a friend on a recent trip to Sitka. Never thought of a 16 as a tender, but if you've got the hoisting power and deck space, why not?

Yes, this dinghy use of a 16 has been well documented. Some C Brats have talked to the owners. _________________ Bob Austin

Is that a 16, or one of the rare 14's? I saw a large yacht up in Alaska during my trip up there three years ago, and he had a 14. May have been this yacht, but I remember the one that had the small C-Dory had a large satellite dome on the fly bridge. This one looks a little different, and I can't remember the name of the boat. This looks like a "Delta" motor yacht, and the other vessel which had the 14/16' was a Delta. I suspect this is the same vessel. The name strike a bell also. (There is some relationship between Delta Marine and Northern Marine yachts.).
There are a number of photos of Maximo with the C Dory on the deck, and I believe it is a 14 from the other photos. 'there is a Delta RPH 63 which looks almost identical to Maximos for sale in New Zealand. Maximos is listed as 61 meters LOA and 6 meters beam.
Spirit of Zopilote. owned by Bruce Kessler is also an Identical sister ship I believe. Pretty rugged trawler types--and not cheap. The one in NZ is 1.5 million. and is over 25 years old.

The name did sound somewhat familiar, but it just didn't look like the same boat. Could be the angle. We ended up talking to him as he went by, and that's when we learned it was a 14' C-Dory. Nice guy. We asked and he even gave us the latest weather forecast from his satellite receiver. (We were out of range of any VHF weather.) Colby |

Yes definitely a 14, and another interesting fact is Maximo used to be green white and red (Oh Boy Oberto livery) when owned by Steve Oberto. When not cruising it is moored here in Seattle at Fishermans Terminal, I go by it everytime just to look at the cute 14 (which was also repainted from grey to blue stripe to match Maximo’s new colors). Jay talks about meeting and talking to Steve Oberto on Maximo during his previous trips to SE Alaska in this thread about the 14…

Mike, the thread you shared is a good explanation of the supposed 16 as a dingy on a yacht. Seeing the 14 C-Dory & a Mokai on the Maximo & talking to Steve Oberto was in in 2007 & my second time into Red Bluff Bay, the first being 2004.

Had he bought the CD 14 first, he might not have wanted all that crap hooked on to it. |
