Planning for Our Grand Adventure - Parking in Prince Rupert?

Greetings, Brats!

We are gearing up for our upcoming summer 2022 trip to SE Alaska - two 22' Crusiers trailering from Oregon to Prince Rupert in mid June. Obviously, there are still a lot of unknowns about road travel through Canada, due to Covid. But, we are planning as if this will be possible. If it isn't, we will instead goof around in the San Juans or elsewhere with our vacation time.

While there is still MUCH we are figuring out, one of the little details that I would like to figure out is WHERE to securely park two truck/trailer combos in Prince Rupert? If anyone has any experience/recommendations/advice for this I would be appreciative! These are the small logistical details that fall to me in the planning process.

We parked by the propane distributor. Secure and took and brought us back to the boat.

The old addresses from 12 years ago are not valid.

There are several places advertising on the internet as Boat storage.

on a number of trips to the area we parked the truck & trailer at Coastal Propane. Might be the one Bob mentioned.

This place is near the public ramp. There is most probably others but this was convenient and safe option for us.

We too used the Coastal Propane storage, very near the public launch ramp & it worked out well for us, but that’s now 18 years ago.

Three years ago I used Coastal Propane. Two blocks from the boat launch. They are a small family shop, so not a whole lot of room. Give them a call and see if they can reserve space for you. I forget what the cost was, but it was reasonable for secure storage. +1 250-624-5011

Following. We too plan a trip to this region, but staying in Canadian waters around Prince Rupert and Kitimat next June. I have not decided where to launch or store the rig yet.

I would recommend launching your boat in port Edward. You can park your truck and trailer along the road with everyone else for free. The boat launch is also free. Been doing this for the last 15 years with zero problems. Port edwards is quiet in comparison to prince Rupert with less services but if you head into prince Rupert and get stocked up first it’s no big deal. You can fuel up at mavericks in port Ed right before you launch to avoid trailering too far on full tanks.

I just looked up the Port Edwards Boat Launch Ramp on Google Maps and there are good photos of it on street view. It looks like this will be my likely launch and parking spot in June.

When I did my Alaska trip, I was out for just over two months. Would you still recommend leaving a rig that long in Port Edwards along the road? The nice thing about Coastal Propane was the security of being in a locked gate and somebody keeping at eye on things. Colby

Was thinking the same thing here. Would not want to come back and find the EOH components missing.

From the Google Maps street view, the Port Edward ramp looks good as being a steep launch ramp.

Well I wouldn’t recommend launching at a low tide, this is manageable. I have left my truck and trailer for three weeks in port Ed with no problems but I suppose it’s the same as anywhere, don’t leave anything in plane view that you don’t want to lose and you should be fine. Port Ed is a good place to launch, heading out into Chatham sound from porpoise harbour is always a great time and is most often accompanied by memorable views of porpoises and or whales. Wherever you’re headed you will be in good shape for your adventure.
