I took your advice and am beginning a new thread.
I appreciate the input in regards to Buoy 10 salmon fishing. I don't fish for salmon and I don't really care for crowds.
I cruise mostly North of Edmonds Washington and the San Juan's. I did cruise down the Columbia a few years ago, after Labor Day. I took a week to make my way to Astoria. There weren't many boats on the water than.
The C-Brats usually has a gathering in the San Juans at Friday Harbor around the 3rd weekend in May. So we might want to keep that in mind.

I read Mike TyBoo's response from the old stream.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-
Cathlamet sees the most fishermen from March to May for the spring salmon season. The B10 season boats are pretty much all downstream in July for ocean and August when the river opens. In September the boats are scattered out more with a lot of them up by Cathlamet and further upstream chasing the salmon in the fall. In August Cathlamet should be pretty quiet as far as fisherman although the launch ramp may be busy at times with go-fast boats if the weather is real nice.
Some folks, though, may be more inclined to be down in the estuary for fishing than moored at Cathlamet, although if the brewery and taco truck are still there and in business what's a couple of days off from fishing?
The Cathlamet gatherings in the past have been in the early spring and it seems we were lucky with the springer seasons being off for whatever weekend was picked. The regs can be goofy for the spring salmon and usually shut down for a while in the middle of the run when quotas are reached.
August might be a more pleasant time, for sure. I recall at the first Cathlamet gathering about 20 years ago we woke up the morning of April 4 with a dusting of snow in the cockpit. Cathlamet can be a neat walking around town so a warm summer weekend might be best
++++++++++++++++++++
Let's begin planning our Gathering for August 26, 2022 to August 28th. |

The Friday Harbor CBGT for 2022 will start on Thursday, May 12th and end about noon on Sunday, May 15th.
To have this Cathlamet CBGT planned for Friday, August 26th to August 28th sounds great. We could still launch out of Kalama, Wa. on the 26th and stay at Elochoman Slough Marina for the first night as planned earlier? Ideas or other suggestions?
Thanks Keith and Mike for getting this thread going. _________________ Gary F

Gary, I'm with you on the Kalama launch. (In fact, if we ever get a decent weather break, I am still looking at it the year.)
The August date sounds good to me.
** --->Mike, Thanks you for fixing the other thread and avoiding confusion.

If anyone is up for a tuna cruise about the same time, rough area, I’d be in! I know it’s not the same idea but if I’m going south for the gathering, I’ll want to try my hand at Tuna if there are some experienced well rigged fleet boats who are up for it, but we can put that discussion in a different thread (yes I have radar, ais, off shore and a little tuna experience. |

We'd love to go to Cathlamerdam but we will be in Russia on Viking's Rivers of the Tsars Cruise while this event is happening. I went to Cathlamet in April 2004, and our little Lhasa Apso, Oscar (Baxter's predecessor), nearly got snatched off the dock by a sea lion! He was named Oscar because of his resemblance to Oscar the Grouch!

Started out a little early for the 2022 Cathlamet gathering. Last week we stayed 3 nights on the Sand Island Marine Park https://wildcolumbia.org/hiking-camping-wildlife-columbia-county-oregon/sand-island-marine-park-overview/ as we explored the river along with the areas of St. Helens, Kalama and Rainier Or. The Sand Island Marine Park had two very nice guest docks with free overnight stay but with a donation box. We were the only overnight boat to stay on either dock for the 3 nights. It was very quiet, peaceful and we enjoyed the abundant wildlife in our travel. Looking forward to the real event next year. The Columbia River has much to offer in what to see, do and explore by C-Dory boat or kayak. |

The FH-CBGT cannot be scheduled until after Jan 1, 2022. There will be a new thread posted ASAP after that date with some of the particulars. Gary (DayBreak) is going to make that reservation asap after they open Jan 2.
Not sure what "POC" mean is your book, but Gary has offered to take the lead in organizing this year.

Thanks for the info.
POC means point of contact. Sorry, too many years spent in the military.

I'd be interested in the gathering, except we hope to do the Erie Canal during last half of August and first half of September, this year (2022). Colby |
