Officially took our ‘new’ to us 1999 Tomcat out for her first run today. Many thanks to Ted and Donna…we’ll do our best to keep her in top shape. Cheers!

Congratulations! I hope you are as impressed with your boats abilities as I am with mine. I believe you have purchased the best C-Dory model (in my biased opinion).

Well. I'm reading that on Sunday and it is raining, windy (bluster bus kind) and cold. Sure hold your day yesterday was better and your ride went as planned. Stay safe and enjoy, and
Welcome to the C-BRAT family.

So on the TC24, I have a spot in the aft port quarter of the cockpit deck that ‘crackled’ with pressure applied. No soft spot…maybe just missing epoxy bonding. Previous owner said it had always been like that. On today’s run out on the Sound, noted that the ‘crackle’ is gone…with the motors down. Return to homeport…motors up…crackle returns. Normal flexing? How concerned should I be? I bought a moisture meter. Back deck was inconclusive…but I did find a problem with the masthead light base. Thoughts?

I would depend more on sounding out the deck area (tapping with a phenolic hammer or screwdriver handle).

You can pull the light fitting and see if there is any moisture. Not sure if that area is cored on the '99 boat or not. Any metal will cause high readings on a moisture meter.

On our 2003 TC24 the bulkhead is cored but the cabin top in not.

I would not be to concerned about the deck issue as it sounds localized. I would suggest that you have 2 options. 1. Take the wait and see approach. If area does not get any larger, then no worries. 2. Do some exploratory surgery. (I personally would do number 2 as I would just be too curious.) I would explore by drilling thru upper skin and core, but not thru lower skin with 1/2" dia drill. This would allow a visual inspection. If core is wet then you need to find source of water intrusion and stop it. If core is dry, then filling hole with very runny epoxy will very locally rebond. Good luck and I would be curious how you proceed.
