Hi, newish C-Dory owner here with a general question.

I bought a 1989 16 foot Angler last July and have been somewhat obsessed with finding out the history of the brand and how best to renovate and upgrade/update the boat since. This is the first boat that I have owned, I'm assuming this is a normal thing with boat ownership?

The best thing I've found about this site is that almost any question I've had I've been able to find a past discussion on the topic. Great general information and specifics if you can dig deep enough. Someone wrote out the general history of the brand a few years back. Awesome job and nice to know the back story.

Thanks to everyone for posting all the pictures of different projects and ideas for upgrades. Very inspiring and confidence building. Also expensive to try to do everything at once. Need to pace myself and find a different supplier than West Marine.

Off to put on a second coat of Cetol.

Hi Brian, and Welcome. C-Brats is a great place, super folks, great boats, and everything you could ever want to know about C-Dorys here on the site. Stick around, and show us what you are up to. There are several suppliers (bunches) on the web. West Marine is still one of my main suppliers. One of the reasons is that in our local store, about 40 miles away, (Port Townsend) the folks there are both knowledgeable and helpful, and when you buy your BoatUS membership there you get some good discounts when you pick up there "On Sale" items. Might be different on your side of the water.

You're not the far from Friday Harbor, If you do it right, and next year we will have the 2020/2021 FH-CBGT (Friday Harbor C-Brat Get Together there. Come on out and show us your prize and meet about 40 to 50 C-Dory owners and their crews. We would love to meet you.

Brian,

I usually check West Marine prices, but somehow I rarely purchase from them. Be sure to also check out Fisheries Supply, LFS (which has a Ballard store that can get stuff overnight from their Bellingham store), and Seattle Marine Supply (Fisherman's Terminal). Just like you can pay "boat prices" for stuff that a tractor supply business sells for less, you can pay "yacht prices" for stuff when commercial fishermen pay half.
