We're thinking about hitting Lake Shasta in late March. Does anybody have any tips on tourist trap places to avoid, nice moorages, good places to launch or must sees?
thanks

Hi Ken, The Pitt River arm of Lake Shasta is the most remote and picturesque in my opinion. There is a marina on that arm but I don't remember it's name. Bridge Bay Resort by the I-5 bridge is the most commercial operator.

We spent many Summers water skiing on the Pitt. Roger -Dreamer

great, so you think maybe put in at Bridge Bay and motor over to Pitt arm. This year there should be ample water for boating Smile

Hi Ken, I was thinking I'd avoid Bridge Bay and launch at Jones Valley Resort. Check out:
http://www.anglernet.com/web/maps/shasta1.htm
for maps and contacts. The rest of the lake is fun to explore too. Shasta Caverns is supposed to be worth the trip though we never went there.

B~C/Ken-

Send me a PM with your address and phone #, and I'll prepare a map with write-over information from my 50+ years on the lake. I could loan you one of my Bridge Bay Marina vehicle passes for the week, and you could launch from there and have the added protection of their security service and more central location for free, if you desire.

If you're interested, you can come by the house and stay for a day and/or night, and have diunner with us, etc.

Can't do this for everyone, but you're a real Bud.

Joe.

Hey B~C while you are at Lake Shasta you gotta go into Redding...and hit Buzzes Crab Shack....(good fresh sea food).... and Jack's Steak House...(the best steak house in da state) You will love Jacks...looks like a dump inside and out...a real pit.. it's actually painted to look dumpy....surly waitress...but OUTSTANDING steaks....it's super... (downtown Redding on California St.)

While you are on the lake...check out Shasta Caverns ....well worth the visit..

I went to Junior College in Redding....good school

I attended twice...before and after the war.... I started in 1965 and returned after I did active duty in 1968......My shop teacher Jim Cooley insisted that I go to Chico State.... kinda forced me....and I did...and that is how it all started....decided it was such a neat place that I became a college shop teacher.....it was a good career.... but now that I am retired, a full day work is totally out of the question..... I just don't know how I found time to go to work....
Today I installed dual Racors on SEA3PO

We are also heading for San Diego next month with da boat...

HEY JOE, I didn't want to derail the lake powell cruise thread , I'll get those maps in the mail today, you should recieve them before your boating weather returns Smile It would have been nice to go check out Shasta (one of these days) but after 2,500 miles and a few KOA's along the road, we found some sunshine. We had a good time, saw some fantastic scenery and may have sold a C-Dory at the Wahweap campground.

I was wandering down to the camp store one morning and a gal started grilling me about the boat. I gave her the tour and sales pitch and pointed her to the brat site. They where a nice couple from Vermont that where tired of all the hassel of operating a sail boat.

We did get some odd looks and comments at the KOA's, if anybody is interested, the KOA's in Bringham City and Fillmore Utah are nice, offer easy acess to the freeway but are far enough away to allow some piece and quiet.

now if the photo page would work I could share my most favorite pic of all time

Ken

Glad you had a great time and sold someone else on the C-Dory!

I'll have to try the Lake Powell thing when I'm all healed up 100% and the weather is optimal!

Joe.
