Hey, y'all,
Merry New Year, Happy January! It's been a while--and that's the problem. Put this under news from the front in the war on sanity.
Last year, we missed the mother of all CD East Coast gettogethers to date at Lankford Bay (sp?) because I was aboard a skipjack as a mate, and then, in a fit of madness and a desire to see new things, I took a job with FEMA. So..."Snowdon", our CD22 homebased in Annapolis, Maryland, got less than adequate workouts for much of the fall as yours truly was making his way from tornados in Wyoming to Port Arthur, Texas where Rita had done her damndest to dampen Texan spirits, but failed miserably.
And so... with infinite regret, but for good reasons, we're thinking it's best to help her find a good home with her next family. I'll be posting details shortly in the fer sale section of this fine, fine site, but figured I'd let folks know what's afoot. She's a fine vessal, and deserves to travel in company with someone able to use her well right now. Anyone interested in being considered for the position of owner/captain? Anyone able to talk me out of this madness? Anyone got a brew? Bruce |

damn work, If the sale is just prompted by a lack of use, I'll bet if you asked her she would be happy to wait a few years for you to have more time for her. It doesn't cost much to mothball her and you may kick yourself down the road for selling. _________________ Ken

Maybe even a Mama!
Bruce, I am sorry to hear that you are thinking of selling your boat. I know that being on the water is important to you. I want to thank you again for the tour of the Living Classroom boats that you gave my sister and me last year right before the Eastern Shore gathering. You were busy but you took time to talk to us about the boats. Thanks again.
One more thing. Go down to the water, sit down with a cold or , gaze out onto the beautiful bay, and rethink this "madness".

"There's nothing ... absolutely nothing ... that compares with messing around on a boat" --- certainly not work (if you don't have to). I agree with Robbi -- sit on the shore on a warm evening, have a brew, and watch the sunset. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Thanks, all.
We live where essentially, the sit-on-th-dock-have-a-brew-and--contemplate-the-sunset process can occur nightly, Thank God. I just haven't gotten all the social work out of my system yet, I guess, and have been going through a step-up, step-down pattern from being retired to being on sabbatical to being unemployed-to getting an interesting job for a while for the past few years.
As for saying "so long" to "Snowdon", it doesnt necessarily mean we can't get another in a bit, no? This consoles us, especially as it looks like we may become bi-coastal shortly when a new family addition gets aborned in Port Townsend. Are there any CD's that ever come available in the Puget Sound area? I did think so. In the process of finding out, I hope to meet some of y'all who have become mythic to me in your wisdow on this site over the past couple of years.
And as for the "messing about in boats" thought--between our old Drascombe Lugger and our Tremolino trimaran, we've got a current surfeit of lovely, older, unusual trailor-sailboats sitting in our yard that we've worked back into shape and now need to use or sell to some deserving soul. Actually the Lugger is a family member, so she will be the family heirloom boat, I guess. I'll have to put the Tremolino back in the water soon and sail her with a sign that says "If you know what this boat is--you want it!" and see who bites.
Between hurricanes, that should keep me busy for a while, hmm?
And, Robbi, it was a pleasure! I'm sorry we didn't have more time to talk. As you could see, those old skipjacks are lovely boats, but they take daily care to keep afloat, and fewer of them are around every day. Baltimore is a cool place, yes? Best to all, Bruce |
