Rick just called me from the SBS and said he really likes the look of the new Tom Cat 255. Has anyone here taken it for a test drive? Any opinions other than the cost? Hopefully he will come to his senses when he gets home.

Pat, don't count on any of us to help with his "senses". Sounds to me (and probably I speak for a majority of us at the SBS) that he's in full control of his faculties... If I was in control of our bank account, I'd have one but I'm not, not that I'd do anything so rash...
Saw one today at the show, it's very nice, you'll love it...

I'm with you Charlie, I would LOVE to get see the TC255 in the driveway with my name on the title. Unfortunately I don't see that in my future.
Pat, my only experience in the TC255 was my foray to the SBS last weekend. All I can say is it is the roomiest 25 footer around! I would love to have it! The one and ONLY drawback to it other than price IMHO is they put the motors on the transom bracket. That makes downrigger fishing a lot tougher as the lines will end up in the prop with the motors so far back and so wide. But for the size of the berth up front I would gladly try to figure out how to keep my lines out of the props!
Thinking about it I would love to see this thing powered by twin Mercury 175HP Sportjets! Sure there would be a small motor box in each corner of the cockpit but I think it would be an awsome setup. _________________ Gary Johnson

Gary, all you need is tall downriggers and the problem is solved. Or long ones to get them out to the side. Work with me here, we can do this....
Pat give it up, or give him up... No I don't really mean that....It's got to be a joint decision, and by that I dont mean while youre smokeing one...... A boat that expensive is a big jump.
Now that that's been said, go jump and buy one.
Go Rick.... |

Tell him he's limited to 135HP engines that 150s are too expensive...
And a small radar, not the big one...

Gary,
He really likes his Hondas on the Amigo. Why do you think Merc's would be better?

Crap...........I just realized that TC is going to cost more than the little country house on 7 acres that I bought last year for the grandkids to visit.
Let's see which is the better investment........................

If I was your grandkid, I'd MUCH rather visit a floating house like a TC than one of those fixed to the ground type things... However, I recognize that financial appreciation and personal appreciation are not the same thing. Which one(s) are you investing in? _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Roger, a few years ago when the $ market tanked, I remember one of our members stating that his C-Dory held its' value better than his $ market investments ......(of course that is different than the "little house on the prairie" that you are discussing). _________________ Dave S.

Gary,
You had the same thought that I did about the Sportjets for a power option except I had mine a year ago. Problem was that E.Q. Les reminded me that they are still true two strokes that are both loud and thirsty. It won't be long though and that may change. What a nice package with good horse power, small seat boxes with cushions like the standard 25, and a transom door that goes out onto a swimstep that is low to the water. Not to mention that the draft would be great for those shallow water folks. The price could also be a bit different if you didn't have to make and attach the Armstrong brackets. It would also reduce costs of moorage and ferry boat rides.
Still only a dream for my next C-Dory to have two hulls but hey, it's My dream and my Tom Cat still has the Sportjets.

Thanks, Dave. Well it's not a done deal yet. He's currently on a trip down the coast and has a little more time to "come to his senses" before he gets home. Meantime, maybe I should go buy a bunch of lottery tickets.
