I have available to me a British Seagull Model 90 outboard (20" shaft). I'm contemplating using it as a kicker for our 22 cruiser but I'm not sure it has enough umph. It has a thrust rating of 90 lbs instead of a horsepower rating (online sources are saying that the power output is about 3-5 hp). Is this enough power to get anywhere in "moderate" weather?

Agree, the Sea Gull's --are great motors--when they run. Just be sure that it starts and you can start it easily.

We had a friend who used one of these on a 36 foot classic racing 6 meter sailboat--They have a large prop and are geared down--more like a 5 to 6 hp, even though the hp is 3--because of the torque.

Decades ago, I was very frustrated having been unable to start my brand new Seagull kicker on my 26 foot boat. After hours of trying all kinds of stuff, I finally resorted to the instruction book..... It began: If you are the average boater, you have just now picked up these instructions after long frustration in operating your new British Seagull......"

It had more than enough power for that 6,000 lb boat, but having to lean over the stern to start it and only a swivel reverse, I abandoned it for a simpler remote starting model.... They are amazingly reliable, simple devices, though. John
