I'll be getting my boat named soon and have a question about the sticker placement ( I'm not having it painted, just vinyl stickers).

I have a 16 Angler. I'll have the port and starboard sides named just below my 2nd window. My question is about the stern placement. Do 16 owners get the stern named too? Above the transom? Or to the port and starboard of the motor? If the latter then the name would only be visible when the boat is on a trailer with the motor trimmed up right?

Hi S of H.

I was just looking at your boat in relation to your name placement question. When you say the second window. are you counting from front to back or from stern to bow. From bow to stern it looks like the C-Dory logo takes up a fair amount of space under "the second window" so I'll assume you are counting from the aft forward.

It is your boat so you can name it where and how you like. Not many C-Dory's that I know of have names on the stern. I didn't put mine there but have thought about it since then and may still add it.

The one thing I did, was make the lettering big and plain enough that it can be read from a pretty fair distance. I didn't, but hindsight is almost always better, than at least my foresight, place the name just forward of the front window post rather than directly onto the side. Reason. When going forward on the side deck, it is too easy to scuff the lettering. I have a whole sub-album on how I did mine if you want to take a look:

As to visibility from aft, I have seen names up on the aft side of the roof top, and on the transom, one side or the other. Don't think I have seen any power boats, at least OB powered ones, that have the name centered aft.

Thanks for your reply and showing your "Naming our C Dory" album. Very nice.
I was actually thinking of removing my C Dory sticker. It's already very damaged and sun faded. I think it was probably the original from the factory.
I also like your rationale behind keeping the actual letter font simple BUT I was thinking of more of a cursive or flowing font. I'm meeting the digital graphics guy this week to see his renderings. I'm thinking of lettering the transom, port and starboard because then I could add my town and state too.

I'll post pics once I get my baby named. Lol

I solved the rear name placement problem by having the lettering guy make a smaller arched-to-match decal for the rear cabin roof space between the facia and the top bulge. Not too readable at a distance but I always thought it was a nice detail. Sorry no pictures.

I got my boat name vinyl lettering through this website:

https://doityourselflettering.com/

There are lots of fonts and style controls. The cost for two big names for the sides and a small on for the back was about US$80.

Took about a week to get them.

My boat name is finally on! The digital graphics guy did a good job; it's 4 inches by 8 inches. There is a nice shadow on it too. I went with a staggered name and only on port/starboard. I dd not have the transom lettered yet.....but I may.

This is rationale behind my boat name: The 16 is a little boat that acts and wants to be a bigger boat! There is also a slight play on words; "pole" is the first name; as in fishing pole.

The pics are in my photo album.
