A vote Wednesday in Jacksonville Fl between St Johns Riverkeeper and the Port of Jacksonville may finally remove the Dam from the Oclawaha R to restore its natural flow.
Go to St Johns Riverkeeper for the details. _________________ The trouble is we think we have TIME Buddha |

I love the Ocklawaha, in a kayak, canoe, or my C-Dory. I'd love to see the dam removed, and I think the extra current further upstream from the reservoir might deepen the channel, and let cruisers like the C-Dory go upstream perhaps even as far as Lake Apopka. I tried and failed to go that far in 2011, only making it a few miles above the town of Eureka. There's a journal here:

This is good news.
We went through the Rodman Dam and upstream on the Oklawaha last year on our annual St Johns trip. It was a beautiful journey, especially when we got upstream to where the river began to resemble its unflooded stage. We got about a mile south of Eureka Ramp, We hopped a log and soon saw we were in store for much more of the same. It was obvious a C-22 was not going very much further. What a beautiful area. I would love to poke around there more.
Later we launched at Silver Springs and after spending the night at the springs (we saw the monkeys) we tried the Oklawaha from the other end but had much the same experience with the snags.
The Oklawaha is a beautiful river and any recovery from the Barge Canal madness is vey welcome.
I'm looking forward to talking "Oklawhaha" With the "Queen" at Hontoon soon!
Carpy,

Hey Jimi....I watched Matt Keene's video at the end of the RiverKeepers announcement. The song that accompanies it gives me goose bumps. I love that type of ballad music. Is Lonesome Bert and the Skinny Lizzards still around? We should find someone with musical talent for out gathering camp fire
