Thanks, Jody. Those are neat photos you get with the overhead camera.
If I decide not to head out until after Saturday, I may hang around at the ramp to see if I can catch some incoming C-Brats just to say "Hi" (and heck, to pick up some launch ramp tips ).
In the heat of the day yesterday (must have been 95º+) I mentioned something to a local about how it looked like fall temps were coming on Saturday (is going from mid-90's to mid-70's for highs) and they said "Oh no, this is fall weather already." I guess mid-70's must be "winter" then. |

Charlie, Dr. Bob and Marie were in Oak Canyon and planned to stay for another week or so. They had already spent two weeks on the lake. Doing well and both looked good.
We came home today after 8 days on the lake. Great gathering, the weather was perfect. 17 boats at Oak Canyon. We split into three groups after that. Only 6 boats made it to Forgotten Canyon. The rest stayed in the lower lake. _________________

We too arrived home today after a wonderful 9 days on the lake & now are already looking forward to another repeat next year. It's always great to see again old C-Brat friends & meet new ones. This has been a banner year for us in this regard with the Friday Harbor Gathering & extended time spent in that area, along with a month in Yellowstone, followed by the just ended time at Lake Powell & all this in a year mainly just trying to evaluate whether JoLee was going to be able to do another future extended Alaska cruise. Well, we now know that JoLee is for sure recovered enough for another Alaska Adventure next year & for the first time for us it will very likely be a shared adventure with at least one other boat & maybe more, which we had a fantastic time discussing the preliminary planning involved during the last week.
Brent & Dixie, right after you two left Forgotten Canyon, I walked up to the fire pit above where we all had the boats on shore & a snake mostly hidden in the sticker weeds along the trail had me hi stepping for a few moments until I realized it was a golfer instead of a rattlesnake.

I think that looks like the same spot we all beached last year (on the right of the photo)? If so, wow, what a difference a little water makes. Nice photo! |

Sunbeam, here's a shot from the same general area in 2010. Significant difference in water levels.

We are off the lake!
We spent our entire time on the lake between Bullfrog and Dangling Rope! Three days at Iceberg, ten days at Little Oak, and the last night at Slick Rock. Swimming, kayaking and fishing every day! Thanks to Dr. Bob and Marie for letting us hang around so long!
We left Slick Rock Canyon this morning at 9:30 a.m. and got to Bullfrog Marina about noon. Retrieval was not good - a strong crosswind made it devilishly difficult to get the boat on the trailer, but with perseverance, we succeeded.
On to Stan's Drive-in in Hanksville, where we ate of the "forbidden fruit" - I had a double bacon cheese burger with fries, and Patty had a garden burger with onion rings! We got off the lake just in time - there was a thunderstorm / flash flood warning for tonight on the lake, and we experienced a bit of it driving from Hanksville to Price. We were treated to lightening, driving rain, high winds, and low visibility. We are now scumpo in the Price Walmart parking lot with the curtains closed and the Webasto turned up! It is raining like crazy here but we are dry and warm in the "boaterhome"!

Hi Guys,
We would like to go to Lake Powell 2015 or 2016. Spend a few weeks down there and take in some other sights like Grand Canyon, etc. We have good friends who would like to do this trip with us in their land RV. For the Lake Powell bit, would they be able to pitch a tent on the shore or are there snakes, scorpions, and other nasty creepy crawlies to worry about?

Do you mean pitch a tent on shore from their RV? Or come along with you in the boat and then camp on shore?
If the former, there aren't that many places I know of to access the shoreline from a road RV. A few, such as Lone Rock (near Wahweap) and the campgrounds at Wahweap and Bullfrog, but not many (or maybe not any) in the bulk of the lake.
If the latter, I have seen many people camped on shore from boats all over the lake. I'd want a zip-up-able tent to keep the various creepy crawlies out while sleeping (including mice, of which there are plenty). But there are lots of nice sand beaches to camp on right near where you would beach or anchor a C-Dory (no tides and the river level doesn't typically fluctuate daily). |

Must have been too little to play in the Ryder Cup!
Sounds like a great time, maybe next year.... Now that Jim and the Blonde are without a boat, maybe they'll come stay at our place on the C-Bay and take care of our kitties!

Thanks for the reply Sunbeam. Our friends would leave their RV with the boat trailers where ever we launch from. They would travel with us on the boat in the daytime, then pitch their tent on the beach for the night. So it sounds promising and doable.
Cheers,
Martin. |

Martin, your friends could pitch a tent and camp just about anywhere you could get them ashore. And you could beach nearby for the evening campfire! Definitely do-able! This is a "must see" destination, and for us, a regular if not annual destination! |
