Just wondering if anyone had researched the new DeLorme InReach Explorer tracking transponder.
We have used the original SPOT for years, and it has worked very well but the new DeLorme InReach devbice looks pretty nice, with a variety of features.
Any thoughts?
Best,

We purchased the Inreach SE for our trip to Alaska (via motorhome) and used it to track our location via SpotWalla. I also used it to text my wife (before she flew into Fairbanks) during the times that I was out of cell phone range. You can use the "keyboard" on the Inreach or the smartphone app.
One thing we love is the fact that we can go month to month and pick the plan that we need. Right now we aren't traveling so we have the Inreach inactive.
My parents track us as we travel (just for fun) and the Inreach never missed a track along the way (every 10 minutes). On my tag line there is a link to our travels tracked via the Inreach. _________________ 2008 CD22 Twin 50hp

Casey,
We have used one for the last 3 years after using a Spot. There is no comparison. The ability to send and receive a text message is worth it's weight in gold if you are out of cell phone range for extended periods. Last week on a caribou hunt in the southern Brooks range we sent a daily status text and my wife sent back a reply with the latest weather forecast. We coordinated our pickup with the air taxi so we knew when he was going to be there and what he could take out. Since I have had the inReach, the sat phone has stayed in the case. No reason to take it out.
