this actually sounds like the best advice. what's better than to draw attention to the hazard?
or get new friends. most of mine are under 5'3" so its not an issue. ha. _________________ Dustin |

I have not been able to figure a way to attach any kind of padding that doesn't interfere with closing the door. So, I have to whack my head every once in a while... well, I don't have to, but I do. It's only been 8 years. I am apparently a slow learner.
What I tell guests: "Put your hand on the top of the door frame as you enter or exit - that will remind you to duck." Most of the time, I take my own advice. The times that I don't... I usually wind up swearing. hAsn't aaaaaaffekted me, n0Ne. |

I had the same problem...until... I finally got curtains made, including a full length one for the door. When the curtains (which are basically sunbrella) are rolled up they act as a buffer. If I do forget to duck completely, I hit that instead of metal. But with the blue material right there, I almost always see it and duck. |

I usually have to get banged each year to remember. i now wear a skull cap
which, when it happens, softens the blow.
Door entry is not a problem for my shorter guests. I am raising 6 grandkids. _________________ Sea ya |

On the Comfy Dory, we have a wood grab bar installed on the interior of the door opening, above the door. About 16" long. Guests who are in the cabin grab that rail when standing in the cabin looking out to the cockpit and beyond. That might keep your guests from grabbing any padding that you put up there to protect against bumping.

Paint a duck in yellow right above the door. When they start whining about hurting their noodle you can point to the duck and say I told you so.

This is how we do it. Caps off before entering cabin. Mantra for c dory is "watch yer head!" Bonk ability not only on entry but multiple vee berth points. We wack heads once in a while still. Oh well. Gotta have a hard head to be a mariner. George |

The V-berth....ouch! For some reason hitting that feels like concrete You wouldn't think a relatively small, light boat could feel so solid! |

I use the smaller stiffer pipe insulation, it stays up over the door no problem, and up above forward berth. If it gets pulled off, I just put it back up, takes 2 seconds. It is plenty retentive without glue. Small price to pay for not smacking your head. _________________ "Moore-on" Moore 24

I usually bang my head when I have a full head of steam running for the helm while trying to land a fish amongst a bunch of other boats. My solution was to add a second helm in the cockpit. |

So many ideas I don't know where to start. I really like the last one about buying me a beer.
Gonna look at getting some flat foam pad I believe. Glue it on with some 4200. That way there is less to hang on to and yank off. Gonna be first on my winter list of MUST DOS. THANKS EVERYONE for the great ideas. _________________ Mike Hamilton / Hambone C-Brat # 4612

THANKS EVERYONE for the great ideas. | One more idea. Get some red can Weldwood contact cement and use that to adhere the foam. Don't use a water based contact cement. They do not work well on foam. Roughen both surfaces with 80 grit sandpaper before gluing. 4200 will slide around before curing. The contact cement is good to go within minutes, full strength in 24 hours. And, if you want to remove the foam, the glue will come off with some elbow grease and lacquer thinner. Removing cured 4200? Ugh! _________________ Dave Kruger
