My 90hp Suzuki is shutting down when idling after we run it to the marina from Bear Island. Makes docking a challenge. Marina mechanic can't seem to fix the problem. Also, he reports gas in oil. This is a 2005 model with many hours.
Anyone have a clue? _________________ Mikey |

If its not the low idle adjustment then may be a leak in the auto choke vacuum line? Just guessing but that is where I would start. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

mdoug,
I hope you're not experiencing the infamous Suzuki corrosion problems experienced by many Suzuki motor owners of that vintage. That's one of the symptoms.
Has your boat been moored in the water or dry stored? Check out this thread:

Lots of bad reports online about this vintage suzy. My mechanic is baffled. I plan to buy a new engine. |

If 1 of the fuel pumps is driven by the camshaft, a ruptured diaphragm can leak fuel into the crankcase via the valve train area. That could explain the gas in the oil. |

Has it been scanned with diagnostic software?
Maybe just a bad sensor _________________ Brent Barrett |

Idle speed is controlled by the IAC (Idle Air Control). It is electronic and must be diagnosed by plugging the motor into a computer w/ SDS(Suzuki Diagnostic Software). Are you getting any trouble codes?
If its leaking exhaust from corrosion, you should get 1 or more trouble codes from the engine.

Yep. Marina ran all diagnostics, found only a timing issue that may be a false alarm, |

Nothing other than a possible timing issue. Marina returned Mikey to me running ok yesterday, So far, so good.
Thanks to all for the help! |

Any explanation on gas in the oil?
How old are the thermostats?
The IAC can be removed and cleaned with throttle body cleaner and a few Q tips |
