Hello - I have a Tomcat with Furuno NN3 with a DFF1 sounder and an Airmar M260 transducer. I am considering changing out the sounder to a DFF1-UDH and getting one of the new wide angle Airmars (B-275LH-W). My question is mounting. Airmar makes this model in transom, in-hull and thru-hull. I currently have the M260 mounted in-hull with 5200 and it would be difficult to remove the tank and re-prepare the surface, the transom mount seem difficult with the swim step, so I am looking at the thru-hull mounted in the same spot where the M260 tank is currently located. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. _________________ David Brena

It is gong to really be tough getting that old tank thru the hull transducer out of 5200…cutting, and using "DeBond" to loosen the 5200, is one way to start. Good chance you will damage the old transducer. However, I would cut with a razor knife as deep as you can go next to the transducer tank. Then begin to soak with "DeBond" Keep the entire periphery of the tank saturated with the DeBond. Being in AK is an advantage, since the DeBond will not evaporate as rapidly. If you can work some wire leader below the tank, and start to pull it, and get wedges under the tank, that will speed the process.
After the tank is out--a sharp chisel will allow you to clean the rest of the 5200 out of the void. I would use silicon the next time around…Be sure and glass off the core from the sides of the cut out. _________________ Bob Austin
