Gentleman I know is looking for this boat he used to own. Bought in 1988 from the factory. When it was found his wife had cancer, he towed it back to the factory (Kent?) for them to sell. Blue trim. Contact me if you own or know its whereabouts. Thxs.

The registration number would have changed when it changed ownership. Do you know what size it was? 16, 19, 22, 25?

Might help narrow the search.

HIN number would narrow it down a lot too!

It was a CD 22. (From the thread title)

The registration number, WN2809LI, would not change in California. I'm surprised that it would in Washington. (?)

Vin number should be

DOR (C-Dory)

+22 (model type)

+ ~300 + (hull number)

+ -,-, 88 (start date of mfg.)

= (~) DOR22300_,_88

Not that this exact enough to locate it, but its a start.

What you really need is a friend in the WA DMV or police officer (LEO) who could look up the history of the boat from the registration number. (WN2809LI)

Good Luck!

I'll pass along the LEO suggestion. He is another past Cdory owner who is kicking himself for selling it. For some reason he wants to buy it back if possible. Maybe it will be another Papa John story!

On another note, I spent two days in Sequim and didn't have enough time to do every thing I wanted to do. Weather was unbelievable. Interesting place and definitely worth a second look. I need to go back and take a more serious look at the area itself and not the business.

If the boat stayed in the same state (Washington), the ID number would remain the same. If it went to any different state, it would get an entirely new number. With that state's initials as the first two characters. Not sure if this was what Joe was saying or not...

Bob- I know that the registration number does not change with an ownership change in California, at least.

Makes no sense to change it, just change/renew the pink slip (ownership papers) and registration cards.

Probably true in other states, but I'm not 100% sure.

I know that the entire registration number is changed when moving from state to state, of course.

I was pretty sure the registration would change with new ownership inside Washington state, based on my experience. Then I realized every time I have bought or sold a boat it changed (crossed) state lines so the reg numbers changed but that may not be so if the boat remains in WA state.

How about it Mark? Does the registration number change, like the plates on a vehicle, when it changes owners?

Harvey- I'm pretty sure neither the registration numbers on a boat or the plates on a vehicle change if going from a Washington owner to another Washington owner.

It is probably just my timing, but both vehicles that I own and were purchased in Washington state, had to have new plates as part of the ownership transfer. Both were older, used, and may have been close to the 7 year new plate requirement.

I just spent some time trying to find the answer to this on the WA.gov and License ??? sites with no joy. No plans for changing vehicles anytime soon so will jsut keep what I've got and do what I'm told by DOL.
