question I own a 2005 C-dory angler 16' and need to know two things
1st do I replace the timing belt now (no existing problems)
2nd do I use a carburetor rebuild kit or buy new ones (3)
What other item needs to be replaced, to date only replaced plugs, filters and impala
Thank You |

If I were you, I'd follow the recommended service intervals in the owners manual. If you can find yours, you can download one at this link. In general, the timing belts should be checked/adjusted every 200 hours of use or every year and replaced when they look like they need it (which is rarely). I'd be more worried about replacing the internal and external zincs to keep corrosion at bay. But regardless, download and read the owners manual. It provides a pretty detailed list of service intervals. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

First -you need to know more than 2 things.
How many operating hours on your engine. Your maintenance schedule is -most in general- based on engine hours. Timing belt is changed out when a honest marine mechanic tells you it looks like its worn and needs replacement. Yeah - its that simple - and then you will know when by observation yourself.
Question #2. Carburetors are very unsophisticated aluminium mixing pots- why in heavens name would anybody replace them? The rebuild kits have the key components to make your carbs work like new. Of course you will need a competent mechanic to install and synchronise your carbs to make the rebuild come out like new.
Actually your question #2 scares me as a dishonest mechanic could skin you alive with BS. My advice is research required outboard maintenance and of course ask questions as you did here before developing a maintenance schedule. _________________ I'm in the third stage of life:
