|
|
I have a detail drawing of a custom Stainless kicker bracket for my C-Dory and I need someone who can take on the job without costing me an arm and a leg... or any other apendage for that matter. It is relatively simple with 4 brakes and a few holes.
Any volunteers or recommendations?
Feel free to PM me or post up here.
Thanks in advance...

I emailed the bracket drawing to a shop in my area and they wanted about $280 to make it. If I could have had it done for $85 I would have done it. I haven't done anything yet and my be draging the kicker again this vacation. Maybe I could get your shop to make one and mail it to me. Would probably be cheaper.

Steve-
Sounds like you got a "High Ball" bid from a machine or sheet metal shop that really didn't need the action. I'd be sure they knew I was looking for a "competitive bid" and that I was going to several other shops before I decided to go ahead with the low bidder. Joe. _________________ Sea Wolf, C-Brat #31

So has the Aluminum been ok?
What thickness did you go with?
I have a heavy 4 stroke Honda 8HP and I fish hard, sometimes in marginal off shore conditions. I need it to hold up. |

I built the dogon dory bracket but instead of buying a prefabbed plastic mount I made one using 3 pieces of 3/4" plywood sandwitched together with wood glue. I spent about 25.00 total. I would say that it is plenty strong enough. I have been running my 10hp Johnson all summer with no problems. The aluminum angle is more than strong enough and is very easy to cut and drill. I used a jig saw to cut it. A hack saw would work good to. |

Ray -
I scrounged up some of my own SS and fabbed a bracket for you. It is the last of the material because it can no longer be legally removed from the mill where I work. They shut down every historic accommodation in that regard last week. They call it Homeland Security, but I believe it to be a tuneup for the forthcoming labor negotiations.
Anyhow, I got your damn bracket at the house. Best I can do is get it to one of the ifishers at the dock this coming weekend. I work too early/late to make the post office, and my wife is too busy/grouchy to ask.
About the mounting board. The one I had on my 22 I bought. Everyone else has made theirs. It is easy to do. But, if you want me to make you one at work, I will need a security bond up front. I figure, discounting the fringes, I will make right around $1 million in the remainder of my career. I can steal you some fancy plastic material, and if I don't get caught it will be free. But if I do get caught I will need the million bucks ASAP. So, do you feel lucky?
Who knows, that 316L Stainless Steel bracket, being the last of the breed, might be worth a million some day! _________________ TyBoo Mike

Mike, I'll give you a call.
I absolutely did not want to jeapordize your career in any way and was looking to have one made. Good thing you had the scrap laying around.
I'll send you a PM for now.
Thanks, |
