Hearing no strong complaints, I will make arrangements to get a block of rooms at the Silver Cloud Inn adjacent to the boat. I will plan on doing this for the second weekend of the boat show (Fri. Jan 31st and Sat. Feb 1). We'll arrange for a trip to the brewery on Friday night and I'll find a restaurant for us to eat at on Sat. night. I'll make arrangements with Sam to give us a talk on his trip around Vancouver Island (hopefully on Friday night).
Mike or Bill - can we get a sign up sheet set up for this event? Thanks in advance. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

There is a boat show code on the website for the Silver Cloud Hotel Stadium. The boat show rate is $135 for a King.

I am thinking of trying to make this, but am trying to figure out transportation options. The Victoria Clipper is reasonable, but the times are not great. Would not arrive until 7:45 Friday (would miss the dinner) and would have to leave at 0800 on Sunday! Flights are pretty pricey... Any suggestions _________________ Mike and Monica Jackson, Victoria, BC

You can take the car ferry to either Twassan or Port Angeles and drive down. That's how I get back and forth to Victoria. |

There is also the Amtrak Cascades train running between Seattle and Vancouver and other points also (see http://www.amtrak.com/cascades-train). I have not looked at the schedule dates or times to see if such a trip, using this option, would be feasible.
I believe Barry & Patty (Colobear) have used it a few times so perhaps Barry will chip in w/ some comments on it.
Hope you can make it Mike! Would be good seeing you again sir.
Take care,

The wife is saying we need a car, airport to hotel, hotel to show. looking at the new boats is nice and makes u wish u had the money but im realy looking forward to walking on boats that I might have a chance at. Im wanting to move up to a bigger boat but not a hund. Tho. Thanks for your input. Kevin |

Sorry I had not seen your post earlier Kevin.
I don't think you really need a car and it would likely be more of a pain and expense then it would be worth due to rental costs and parking fees.
Note that the correct Silver Cloud Inn location (they have multiple locations) is the downtown "Stadium" Inn which can be seen at the website http://www.silvercloud.com/seattlestadium/.
The Boat Show is right across the street from the Silver Cloud Hotel so getting to the boat show is obviously no problem at all.
Transport from SEATAC (SEAttle/TAComa) airport to downtown is easily handled via the Link Light Rail (see the Sound Transit website at http://www.soundtransit.org/).
The SBS (Seattle Boat Show) has a shuttle from the downtown stadium portion of the show (which, as mentioned above, is right across the street from the Silver Cloud Hotel) to the "on the water" portion of the show at Lake Union.
Therefore, having a rental car would be a major pain in the neck and would not be a good option if you are only interested in attending the boat show and transport back and forth from the airport.
Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah on C-Renity |

Kevin Dan is right you don't need a rental car. taxi or light rail from the airport to the hotel. Here in Seattle the hotel has to charge you to park the car in their garage because the city charges them for having a parking space. I know its nuts but welcome to Seattle. So you would have to rent the car and then pay 20 buck a day to park it?????
You can walk to the show and take the shuttle to the floating show. Oh there is no good parking at the floating show and what there is is 20 bucks. If it was not for the boat show I would NEVER go to seattle. NEVER. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

+1 for shuttles and taxis. I love seattle but I'd not get a rental car if I can avoid it. Taxi and shuttles are just so much easier.
That silvercloud hotel is a reasonable walk to other great Seattle neighborhoods if you explore beyond the boat show too. Pioneer Square, Pike Place, Belltown, etc. I live about 45 minutes outside the city and i'm half tempted to get the hotel for the weekend myself! _________________ Dustin |

I rented a car once after flying up from Sacramento to Tacoma.
The rental fees for the car for three days were more than the hotel bill for two!
And I thought I was getting a deal on the rental car! Lots of small fees and taxes add up!
I've tried all kinds of combinations over the years: flying, driving, the train, etc. Also add in the taxi, shuttle, freebe rides from fellow C-Brats, etc.
Like boats, everything is a set of compromises and more expensive than anticipated, etc.
Your individual solution will be a bunch of trade-offs, so just make it fun and enjoy it!

I find that parking usually costs what a taxi would have cost anyway. |

We were not planning on a rental car, but was wondering about the trip to the brewery. I assume there is no public transportation? |
