My recent first outing with my new C-Dory revealed a problem with my fuel tank selector switch. As you can see in the attached photo I don't get fuel when the lever is positioned where the label says I should be getting fuel.
When the pointer is pointing toward "Starboard" I get fuel from the starboard tank. When pointed toward "Port" I get no fuel. I have to point the lever at "Gasoline" to get fuel from the port tank.
The lever will rotate in either direction and there is a slight click as it reaches the dot at off, starboard, port, and the center of gasoline. I haven't pulled the panel in front of the starboard gas tank to get to the actual valve to find a manufacturer's name since it's been raining since I got home with it.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Seems the folks that make the label haven't talked with the folks that make the valve. Do they usually come as a set or are they ordered separate? I can find all sorts of fuel valves online but not the label plate. _________________ Mike Garrett

Mike-
You've discovered the "Great Wheel of Fortune Gas Selector Valve"!
Has been discussed before: Fuel Selector Valve Decal
Just re-label it the way it really works, and don't ask for any great cosmological explanation, because there isn't any.
Welcome back with the new boat!

I think that the handle is just on backward.
Turn it over and all will be rightI think.

Our's has the same layout.
What seems confusing (to me)
is that fuel is selected by the
small arrow OPPOSITE the handle,
NOT the position of the handle itself.
Turn the handle so the small point is
aimed to your choice of tank and it'll
probably work fine.
...but yes, it DOES seem backassward.
Best,

Mike,
I have the same issue as you and your boat was built just before our 23V. You're right in that the selector doesn't match the label. I also removed the selector and found that the Port and Starboard inlets are at 180 degrees, not the 90 marked on the label (Seasense valves were 90 degree units). I contacted Ryan at Sportcraft about this issue and you may wish to do the same.
Not a big issue once you figure out what is happening but not what you expect on a new boat.

You have a 90 degree selection plate and a 180 degree valve. Sounds simple to me........... You maybe able to find a new plate, but hey a sharpy works great. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Maybe it's supposed to be able to run on an "alternate fuel"? Or "OFF" is some new acronym, possibly for 'Oh, F*#k...F*#K!" when you see the bill for topping it off? _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."
