|
|
History: Some of the early 25's had undervented gas tanks that caused gas to burp out when filling. The factory replaced those with new 107 galon aluminum tanks that were vented on both sides.
Problem:
The problem is that you can get whiffs of raw gas in the cockpit area at times. This can be somewhat disconcerting if you were planning a bbq in the cockpit area.
Solution: Take a black 35 mm film canister and cut it off to about the same length as the vent fixture for the gas tank. Slide the film canister over the vent
after you fill the tank. This prevents the flow through ventilation of the gas tank, thus stopping the gas fume smell.
I talked to the factory reps about this and asked if they could come up with a more professional cap system. _________________ Larry S

Is it vented INSIDE the cockpit? If so, I think this is (or should be) a violation of USCG regulations... If it's outside (over the side), the fumes, being heavier than air, should pose no safety hazard even if you get a whiff....

No, it is vented to the outside. But like most people, I don't like the smell of raw gas anywhere in my boat and especially when I have an open flame bbq. |
