My C-Dory owners manual says there is a 15 amp fuse near the battery. The Suzuki df70 Service manual wireing diagram doesn't show one.Ive searched high and low & there's nothing but a 10 amp on the instrument lighting circuit behind the console.Ive talked to a 22 owner & he has one in stb lazeratte. ABYC standards call for a fuse within 7" of the battery. "Owner's" manuals may be very misleading, since few of the boats are rigged identically. You will have a bilge pump, which should have an in line fuse, directly off the battery. There may be a fusible link or a circuit breaker somewhere near the battery.

I see you have a Furuno Radar, a VHF and CB radio, and some chart plotter, plus lights and perhaps some other electrical devices. I would want a 40 to 60 amp breaker at the battery, and a fuse for each electrical device.under the console. There may be a fuse block with a cover behind the console as many of our boats have.

If you run the Radar, chart plotter/sounder, radios and a couple of lights it is very likely to draw more than 10 to 15 amps. Do you have any photos of the area behind the console, and the area where the wires go off of the battery, and area between the battery and battery switch (where there may be a circuit breaker. The outboard may have a separate fusible link or breaker.

My boat was outfitted by a dealer in the LA area and he didn't read the book ....or at least didn't pay much attention to "proper" wiring protocol.

He wired the automatic bilge pump directly to the battery...no switch and did not install a ON-Off switch at all... Needless to say he is no longer selling C-Dory boats....

My bilge pump is not wired for automatic & I have never seen a fuse. May be one on the transom near the pump. There is a 50 amp circuit breaker in stb lazeratte but definitely no 15 amp fuse. radios, radar, plotter, sounder all fused independently inline.the wireing is a rats nest and a photo would be of no use.The lazeratte is so crowded, hands and fingers,a light and ones head in the hatch is the only search method that works.I have no more than about 1 1/2 ft between battery and the tube running thru the stb flotation. Actually even a photo of a rats nest can be useful. One of the things I do when getting a C Dory is to re-wire it. I then label the wires and dress them properly, so it is easy to follow the circuits. If there is a problem on the water, then you can sort it you quickly. It pays to label the wires at both ends.

Often the boat is actually rigged at the dealer as Joel notes.

Why do you want to find this 15 amp fuse? What is it suspossed to go to? (For example the Wallas Stove will require a fuse (I believe 10 amps) at the battery. You have the proper breaker, the individual fuses (I happen to prefer a fuse block, switches etc, rather than in line fuses--neater and safer.)

I have looked for it in the past because D-Dory said it was there.forgot about it until the thread or poll comments concerning the need for kickers & a story about a long slow trip home due to the 15 amp breaker in the stb lazeratte blowing & not being able to find it,so I asked questions and continued the search. Now that I'm hunting for the reason I have lost my tilt & voltage guages I've been wondering about all things electrical. I think if wires were labeled both fore & aft, even an electrical dunce would have an easier time with things like this. I have a plan attack for today due to a slightly better understanding of what I'm looking at in the rats nest. There seems to be a lot of hanging unused bullet connectors & wires in there. Vern

Ok! I studied the wireing diagram, the 12 volt bible for boats book. Appears the extra hanging wires are part of a generic wireing harness & would have been used for more guages. Cut them off, shortened excess wires & rerouted them & others out of the way. That made a difference in the rats nest. Found that I had no power going to the two non functioning guages. When I installed hydraulic steering I pulled the cable out & somehow lost the ignition wire that supplied power from the tach. Never found any sign of it.spliced an unused ignition wire to the the guages & now voltage & tilt are back. Never found that 15 amp fuse the owners manual says is close to the battery but the pump is protected by breaker on the bilge switch a on the console. I guess that's good enough. Anyway, everything is working again. Maybe I'll sleep better tonight. Last night I had nightmares about wireing & got little rest. Looking forward to trying out those new waterproof lazeratte hatches. Salmon starts on the 1st but I have to make a run down to the Sac valley. Got a new grandson coming any day now. Vern
