Since fishing the keys about 17 years ago and renting a 22 parker. Have always wanted to get a boat and fish and enjoy different places. I bought a used 2008 190 Montauk. Bought it in SouthPort N.C. Took it out a couple days with previous owner,he gives sailing instructions there. We went up Cape Fear river and Bald Head Island and Atlantic. My reasoning is to get a few years experience with a center console, and will get a C-Dory next. Want to travel and stay on c-dory by then should be a lot more capable of handling a boat from in the cabin.Since this is my first boat figured take some boater classes and learn on the easier cc. God willing will see you guys at a c-dory gathering with a 22 dory in a few years. |

Larry,
Use and enjoy your Montauk!
A few years ago I had a Montauk 17 and it was the easiest boat I've ever owned to clean and maintain. ...and they're amazingly seaworthy.
Enjoy it!
Best,

The good thing is you bought a boat known for holding it's value, and that will be helpful to transition to something else in the future |

Whalers are great boats, and their owners are about as rabidly fanatical in their love for them as we are for the C-Dory. I had a 17 Montauk in Alaska and had a ton of good times on her. Welcome!
