I was at the Vancouver, BC, Boat Show yesterday and as Sea-Dory was listed as having a display -- and owning one, I looked for the company being represented in some manner.
Well they were a no show here --yet clearly they had payed to be on the exhibitors list.
I talked to the representative for the Sea Ranger tug, and he said Sea Dory is going under and that's why they didn't show up!

What say you all -- what do you here on the viability of Sea Dory as a company going forward?

The company didn't have a booth there or even plan on it. A dealer (Port Boathouse) did plan on being there and listed C-Dory as being represented. BUT as best I can tell didn't plan on showing a C-Dory there. If you're interested in a new C-Dory in the BC area, contact that dealer - http://www.portboathouse.com/

Don't know about C-Dory but I took the Knotty C into the C-Dory dealer in Portland known as Sportcraft Marina for some work and they had two 23 Ventures and two 22 Cruisers. One of the Ventures has a sale pending.

I met one of the new owners of Triton at the SBS, in the area that had the 3 Sea Sports and a 23 Venture. Can't remember his name, but it sounds like the Lindhouts sold Triton. C-Dory production is going strong in Ferndale.

In other news, what is Sea Dory?

Triton Marine was acquired by the Wright family this past Summer, there was no change in staff nor interruption in production . I talked with Scott Boysen (now a part owner) at length about the role of the C-Dory line now that they are producing Seasport again. His words were that Triton has sold far more C-dory's than any of their other lines and that they will continue to refine the C-Dory as they become more understanding of the numerous ways our boats are used. They have already implemented many changes in the way the boat is built.

FYI: the Wright Brothers were the original builders of Seasport from 1955- about 2000, so C-Dory is in good hands.

Triton's name will probably change soon but the production and line up of brands produced, positions them well in our slow recovering economy. In short, we should see the best built boats ever (time will tell).

I agree that C Dory is in good hands, and strong. But they do need to do more marketing and advertising. This was a subject we talked about on the keys, since so many people showed interest in the boats (as they always do). As the market strengthens (we hope), more boats sell) there will be even more demand for boats like the C Dory, with its economy functionality and easily trailerable.

So did they just acquire the assets or did they buy the liabilities as well. Just wondering if everyone who bought a Triton boat just lost there warranty.

Both, warranty through Triton will remain in force.

This was not a fire sale and though I'm not privy to the details of the transfer, I was told that it was virtually seamless and that the five-year factory warranty issued under Triton would remain in force. As of today, the company is still Triton.

One can always call for an update but I'm confident enough to have purchased a new 23V from Triton.

We saw the 23 Venture at the boat show and were very impressed. I can't remember what it was specifically, but I really liked the design of the cockpit, motor well, hatches, transom, etc. vs. our 22.

The other question is do the current builders own the molds for the hulls, or are they continuing under the prior arrangement where a holding company owns the main hull molds, and a royalty is paid for each hull?

This information is exactly correct. I talked to both the Wrights and Scott at the SBS, and recently visited the factory in Ferndale. It is full of boats in various stages of production, they do not have capacity to built many more boats than they are currently doing, which is approximately two C-Dorys and one Sea Sport per month, with the occasional Osprey tossed in. Scott said the future of the Skagit Orka is cloudier.

Not to overstate the obvious, but the most consistent thing about C-Dory is this site, C-Brats. Sure glad Mike and Bill are steady and committed.

Hope the change is/stays smooth and the brand continues to recover.
