Sounds good. I think that Sidney is probably the best place to hold it. I think the first thing is if we can get the marina to set a side a section of dock for the event if we hold it there. Do you have any contacts there?
My May and June are looking pretty packed already, and I am not sure what my July and August plans are yet, though I will likely be away for periods of time. I am pretty sure I will be back around in September... |

The last couple of times I have been to Sidney much of the inner dock space was taken up by yacht brokers/charter operators. There is usually quite a bit of space on the farthest docks out, I think they are G or H. By September much of "the season" is over and they should be happy to have another rendezvous. I think many brats would be very interested in taking the number 75 bus into downtown Victoria where all of the Victoria attractions are available, or the bus to Butchart Gardens. There is also a nice West Marine Store and a nice museum out at the airport. There is a pub right outside of the marina that is pretty good, cannot recall the name. _________________ Patti and Barry

We have never been. Sounds like a fun trip and after Labor Day, the crowds should be thinner. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Hi Mike,
If you click on Photos (middle top of the home page), then click on Cruises & Events, you will see some great pics of previous gatherings. This may help you in the planning dept, and give a flavour of what the gatherings are all about.

Reefmadness can make it if early June would be the dates.
Thanks for considering it.

Sidney is a favorite. I grew up there. From the marina it is only 5 block walk to the best fish and chips in the whole PNW, ( Fish on 5th). *

Another Vancouver Island gathering is a great idea. Agree that keeping it closer to the south end of the island would result in greater attendance. Sydney is a good choice, as would be Victoria Harbor itself.
Another is Buchart Gardens. There is a cove on the south side which makes a good anchorage, but also a marina just across from the BG dock that from the appearance last time there, could handle quite a few boats and might need the business.
Finally, Bedwell would not be too bad. Has a large generally empty floating dock out on the end, and a decent restaurant.
But, if we can talk some Canadian into doing it, arranging things at Sydney or Victoria would offer more things to do.

Hi Mike
I live in Sidney so if you would like me to help out by dropping by the marina or whatever let me know by PM. I can't take on the project personally as I have a busy year ahead with a bit of traveling already booked and more to come but can certainly assist. September would probably be more realistic for the marina for the reasons already stated.
Apart from the Aviation museum there is the Ocean Discovery centre that is right by the marina as well as the Sidney museum and lots of book stores etc.. We have no shortage of restaurant attractions. I would miss the Rumrunner and head for Boondocks up First St but that's a personal choice. It's more a pub and less a tourist restaurant.
Overall it sounds like a great idea! _________________ Chimo: a word of greeting, farewell, and toast before drinking once widely spoken in the Inuktitut language in northern Canada. |

I am leaning towards a September Sidney event, since my early summer plans are filling up. I will need to contact the marina and find out more. With two of you in Sidney to help out a bit, I think we can make it work. |

I am now looking to pick a weekend in September...
The most likely location will be Sidney Marina.
6-8th?
13th-15th?
20th-22nd?
Any thoughts? _________________ Mike and Monica Jackson, Victoria, BC
